Think $3.19 is the cheapest I have seen here in SF bay area.  Think I will fill mercedes when it gets below 3 bucks.

Well shoot. Still $3.19 in the Seattle area :-(  I'm pretty sure our gas taxes are nearly the highest in the country.

California also has about a 9 percent sales tax that's added to price , not sure if that's 9 percent on the base price or on the after Federal and state gas taxed

Now if we could get diesel fuel back below $2, things would be so much better. I’m just  glad it’s back down under $3.

I’m really tired of $300 fill ups. cheeky

Thanks for the info. That only make up for 20-30 cents of the price difference.  I wonder why we are getting so bent over up here.

California also uses its own special blend of gasoline compared to the rest of the country. Kinda puts it into its own bubble as there really isn't any sharing between the states that happens sometimes when there are supply issues.

Granted it's been some time, but back in 2013, gas was almost $0.25 cheaper per gallon in Sacramento than Pennsylvania, drove my grandfather mad because he was convinced everything was so much more expensive out there. I just can't get over how much cheaper cigarettes are out there considering how much they like to tax vices.

Anything over $1 a gallon for 87 octane or diesel is expensive in my book. Yes 2 bucks is better than 3 or 5 of course, but doesn't feel "cheap".

Under $2 is my happy place.

From energy.gov  The green line is gas prices adjusted to 2015 inflation.

Gas was something like five bucks a gallon in the late 60s, adjusted for wages.

We have it really, really cheap nowadays.

Nah, if you use so much gas it's going to be that big of an impact on your budget, you'd blow through 55 gallons in no time.

You're gonna blow through 55 gallons eventually (I go through 10+ per week at around $7/gal) and you'll save the same amount of money over that many gallons regardless, so the way I see it you should store as much as practical when gas prices are low and they're about to increase.

Funny.  I too was thinking how long 55 gallons would last me.  Then, I realized when it was $1.93 i put 30 gal in the F250, 16 gal in the Montero and 8 gal in the Prius for 54 gallons.

Although, another 55 gallons set aside for the Prius returning 44 mpg would go another 2,420 miles.

I really wish that the system allowed to buy "gas futures".  Sure, I can buy a gift card and then that $20 card buys me $20 of gas later but I wish I could buy 20 GALLON card now at todays price and then redeem it some time later for 20 GALLONS.
