Yeah, reading this there are a lot of folks hate Christmas music, at least before Christmas. And if we could only get stores to roll back the decorating for the holidays a few MONTHS....
Lets face it. If christmas music was any good at all folks would listen to it year round. It is pretty much universally crap songwriting but it invokes a an emotional response in people.
I am one of the folks who responds to it with seething rage. Just like I do with disney movies and, oddly enough Extreme makeover home edition.

It's tricky to play that song during the Christmas season

not sure it's not liking Christmas as much as it's the dislike for what Christmas seems to have become....
the spiritual part of Christmas is still all that I need .... the music and advertisements that start before Labor Day... bleh

I guess it depends on where you live. I hear it plenty every year--be it on Sirius or in stores.
Breaking out the Christmas music today.
Albums:
Christmas Magic with The Kruger Brothers (has a few original songs as well)
Now It Is Christmas Again, Garrison Keillor
Hill Country Christmas, Willie Nelson
A John Prine Christmas
Raffi's Christmas Album
Individual song:
Merry Christmas From The Family, Robert Earl Keen

I worked in retail forever. It made me LOATHE Christmas. The commercialism, consumerism, over-hyping of it--paired with the miserable parents who would miserably try to appease their obscenely spoiled kids pretty much destroyed that holiday for me.
There is plenty of Christmas music I dig, but the played-out, uber mainstream stuff burned me out years ago.
Here are some pro-Christmas hipsters for you:

I don't even consider myself Christian any more haven't for a couple decades, but I do like a lot of Christmas music. Though I mostly don't want to hear any of it before Thanksgiving. Nice thing is that in the car the only radio I listen to locally is the nearest NPR station. When WBAA switches over to jazz at 7pm, I switch my stereo over to the thumb drive I've got plugged in. There are some Christmas songs on the thumb drive though so any time of year I may run into some. But all the holiday music on my stereo is from this guy.

I got jaded about shred years ago, but still==props to Gary Hoey for carving out a nice little niche with his Christmas albums. That is the smartest thing a musician/songwriter can do in terms of longevity. Your stuff is in a relatively small pool, so if something catches on, it gets played every year from there on in.
I mean, the Trans Siberian Orchestra has one of the best gigs in the music biz. They work 3 months a year and make a fortune doing so. Where do I sign???
If I could write a decent Christmas song, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
