Cops: Man tries to pay for fast food meal with pot

VERO BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- A McDonald's cashier called 911 after a Vero Beach drive-thru customer allegedly offered to pay for his meal with marijuana. The Indian River County Sheriff's Office said the cashier called Monday with a description of the vehicle the suspect had been riding in.

A deputy spotted the vehicle, found marijuana in the car and arrested its occupant, 27-year-old Shawn Alexander Pannullo.

Pannullo was charged with possession of cannabis and posted $500 bail. It was unclear if he had an attorney.

A Sheriff's report did not say what the suspect ordered at McDonald's or if he ultimately purchased the meal using something other than marijuana.

911 is for emergencies, the local police station number is for non-emergencies, was that really necessary?

If that was me I think I'd be laughing too hard and I'd just tell the guy to pay with pictures of dead presidents or move along.

In alot of places in New York, all calls to the police are through 911. If you call the local precient to report anything you are directed to call 911 to get an officer dispatched to you.

hilarious, especially since it happened fairly local to me. kinda makes you wonder what type of "currency" he used to post bail with ....

just my .02: We need to stop wasting tax payer money and law enforcement resources on this stuff, just make it legal and tax the hell out of it. the local dealer problems will go away after phillip morris or others flood the "legal" market. Im not an advocate (or a user for that matter), but i think there are much more dangerous drugs out there that need more resources to control, and id rather deal with a pot head, than a coke head or even a nasty drunk any day of the week.... ive never seen a pot user get violent, they may get dumber, odder, incomprehensible even, but never violent..

I've paid in fast food restaurants with golf balls before. Never anything illegal.

Agreed!

I spent two years as an RA in the dorms. I would have loved to not have had to deal with busting people for smoking pot. Or put up with the stupid E36 M3 they do to hide it.

It would have been nice to just have all the people smoking pot out on the steps where most of the smokers congregated, have it observed and under control. And no concerns about anyone starting fires.

The weird thing I ran into to where I had to break rules for my own vices was wanting to celebrate the end of a school year with a cigar and fine liquer. Can't smoke inside, and can't drink outside, so my friend and I had to wander off behind an abandoned building to be able to enjoy luxuries that were legal for us.

Edit: However, I did have my best April Fools' Day prank as an RA. I went to one of my pot head residents to remind him of the "room checks" that UPD was going to be doing that evening. Found some other pot heads and reminded them as well.

Word spread like wildfire. All the other RAs were wierded out wondering what the hell was going on. ALL of their pot heads were cleaning all of their E36 M3 out of their rooms and stashing it in the trunks of their cars.

It was fantastic and became a tradition that lasted at least another 3 years, and might even still be ongoing.

Messing with the heads is fun. At a managment training course which lasted 5 weeks we did all those things. Had a drug test when we first arrived and got the results in 3 days. Lost a few to that. After the first weekend off we spread the word that they were doing another drug test. Quite a few just bolted rather than face this fictional drug test.

Passed out plastic bags tothe first week guys so they could take a stool sample to an obnoxious teacher.

We had a Taco Bell employee who was selling drugs to customers at the drive through window.

So, how much pot does it take to pay for a dollar menu item?

Hey, at least the guy tried to pay. Maybe it wasn't in the coin of the realm, but the intent was good.

There was a ice cream truck chain in Columbia, SC called Mr Yummy's. The guy had ten trucks, all orange with blue trim and they seemed to be EVERYWHERE. Then the guy got busted for trafficking cocaine, at the time (late 1980s) it was the largest coke bust in city history.

I used to live in a not-particularly nice neighborhood where an ice cream truck would come around every night about 9 or 10 p.m. There weren't too many kids up and about at that time, but he never had any shortage of adults flagging him down. Seems like it may be a fairly common M.O.
