So I get my newest copy of GRM last week & see the article on the VW GTI. Cool! Two days later my Hemmings Sports & Exotic shows up with a similar article on the GTI. What up with that? It seems to happen fairly often.

Probably has something to do with Manufacturers loaning out cars for review. They don't loan them, you will not likely see a review. I would guess VW loaned out a few at about the same time to both mags, just a part of their marketing strategy.
We publish our editorial calendar in the media kit which is released in September of the previous year.
Aircooled: this was a guide on old GTis...not new ones.

I have long wanted to publish a fake editorial calendar filled with absolute crap ideas, just to see how many of our competitors jumped on these "hot topics" in the following months. We know there are more than a couple of publications that copy us, because they TELL us when we run into them at press events.
You know what they say about imitation... though we're usually more puzzled by these ready admissions than flattered. It's a lot like hearing someone say, "Hey, I really liked that girl you spotted and married, so I stole her," and being expected to say, "Why THANK you!"

In reply to Marjorie Suddard:
I like that idea. You could put something like a Morris Marina and late model Camry buyers guide in there to throw the competitors off.

It is bad I think it would be awesome if GRM ran a buyers guide for the Gremlin.
Our 2012 editorial calendar includes "Teaching the Jersey Shore gang to autocross" and a guest column from Kelsey Grammar called "America's great sporting roads (to drive while coked to the gills)"

okay, truthfully, I do too. And I doubt any of our imitators would realize how awesome an idea that is.

And you could get some human interest stuff from Javelin and his Dad as they fit a 928 engine into a Gremlin for Challenge money.
How about a series of Tech articles that cover topics like:

adapting a knee-operated joystick steering controller to minivans so the operator doesn't have to put down the cell phone or the mascara...
In all seriousness it would be awesome if GRM did an article like one that was in CM about the unloved classics (I remember the BiTurbo, Corvair and TR7 were in it). The GRM version could have a Yugo, Gremlin and some other cars which are the butt of jokes.

i knew she was DTF when she set FTD!

I thought that was supposed to be "STD."
you know.. I am not sure if teaching the jersey shore crew to autocross would be the worlds biggest editorial disaster.. or the most fun thing a magazine had ever done.
It would definatly be full of drama
Another editorial idea.. "how to set up your echo for track day use"

You could just use the Lemon League from Cars 2 as a guide for what cars to use.
How about a story pitting a minivan against a Porsche? Oh, wait...
I like where this is going. I think if a "bluff" issue somehow snuck to the shelves, it would be a great accomplishment. You could even do a buyers guide on how to build a "classic" rice-mobile for challenge money!
