If you think Comic Sans means a humorless French movie, then this link may not make much sense. But if you recognize Comic Sans as the widely hated typeface (mostly because it's so often mis-used), then read this and laugh:

Best sentence is the last.

Yes, procainestart is a words and typeface dork...

People who openly hate comic sans need to lighten up a little. Smoke some weed or do whatever it takes. Unless its a diploma or nuclear weapons documents comic sans is fun and just fine by me.

Are you kidding me?

No, Comic Sans has been taking the brunt for 3 or 4 years now.

LOL.

My M.S. communicator is setup so my texts are comic sans, bold and in red.

My co-workers must hate me!

It's really amazing what some people can get wrapped up in. Hating a font? Really? That's high on your list of things to do today?

It's pretty low on my list of things I hate, but it is a piece of E36 M3 font. Poorly drawn, awkwardly shaped and just altogether ugly.

All typefaces say something, just as colors say something.

Comic sans says bad things, particularly about the user. If you use it, I will think you have no sense of aesthetics, do not recognize how inappropriate the selection of comic sans was for anything you even halfway hope I'll take seriously and/or you may be a 12 year old girl.

All that said, I reserve my real hate for better things than fonts.

I hate goofy fonts. But then, I'm teaching 5th graders and they all spend about 30 minutes trying every single font to eventually find the hardest to read one and then put it in 18pt font so that it wastes 5 times as much paper and ink.

What, you can't read wing-dings yet? You must be new to the profession

Seriously, my high school students play with different fonts, too. But I specifically request certain ones for assignments, just to save my eyes. Research suggests that Calibri, Arial, and such are the easiest for students to read, by the way.

I had no idea there is, or even could be, such widespread disdain for a font? Yes, it certainly might not be the most appropriate for the business world, but outright contemp for it???

I know what I'm changing my email sig to.

A friend of mine is a graphic designer. According to her, you can add Papyrus to Comic Sans... and it's like a one-two punch of font evil.

Obligatory comic:

I'm a skruffier-than-need be, macbook pro-using, latte-sipping, 17-different-helvetica-weights-having, anal pixel-pusher (wanna buy some?) and I support this kind of typeface snobbery, because that's what artsy douches like me do.

And yes I do have better things to do, they're just not as self satisfying.

That said, there is only one font that deserves more disdain.

Monotype Corsiva

classy. real classy.

This is nothing new. At least 8 years ago SWMBO attended a newsletters for professionals type seminar and the first thing the speaker said was something to the effect of "There are only two fonts you will ever need in a professional environment, Times New Roman and Helvetica. The first thing I want you to do when you leave this seminar is to delete Comic sans from your computers"

There was apparently an audible gasp of alarm as a room full of female secretaries realized they were losing their favorite font.

Actually, I like Garamond better than Times New Roman or Cambria. It has more of the old school typeface feel that you get in hardbound books from the 1950s.

I was discussing with a co-worker the other day how ridiculous it would be to draft up a plat using nothing but Comic Sans as the font.

And what do I find today while doing some deed research, some other surveyor drafted up a plat and his font of choice was comic sans. Official legal documents and drawings in Comic Sans recorded in the county courthouse.

What is this world coming to.
