I would say so... http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46593
I'd want some sort of dust (and odor) barrier between the shop space and the loft, for starters. Nice space, but looks more "show" than "go".
No, without grinding dust, paint spatters, welding BBs and a first aid kit, it's just another apartment.

Where's the paint spray area? Overspray would get everywhere. This is a garage for show, and maybe a few oil changes. Not a real workspace.
That place is in a garage condo complex here in Minnesota: http://www.automotorplex.com/ The owner of that particular unit has just finished up construction, so he hasn't had a chance to get it dirty yet. He'll be starting on a Factory Five build in there soon.
It's like a model home- sterile, unlived in, never used. No tools. Not even an engine hoist. That dude is going to spend a lot more money equipping the place.

It does have a lift - in the lower right corner... the same scissor-lift I have. Of course, for a set-up like this, I would expect/want a 2-post... although my g/f does miss having my scissor lift in her garage for detailing (much easier on her back waxing a Spitfire when it's at waist level).
While this is very nice, my "dream garage" would have entirely separate areas for mechanical service (oily), body-work (dusty) and car parking (clean).
If I recall correctly he's planning on installing another lift once he gets everything moved in (if you go to the link posted above there's a huge long thread about the construction process, as well as some pics of his cars.) They have a pretty good cars and coffee event at this location on Saturday mornings in the summer, hopefully I'll get a chance to see this garage in person.
I read thru some of the original post. The "owner" of the shop claims he'll never do any paint spraying or woodworking in this shop. I guess that's the difference between me and him: My dream shop would include a space to do every type of automotive/woodworking project. I currently have a well-equipped woodworking shop in my basement, but when I'm doing auto repairs, I always find myself running from the garage to the basement to use some of those tools. I guess if I had lots of money, I could buy duplicate tools for each shop...
Good idea with the motorplex, but have you seen the pricetag? I would hope you get a reach around with prices like that. Its like buying in at a golf club, you pay a membership fee, on top of your garage fee.

Sorta like the Convoy Compound, except I have dirt, dust, oil, metal filings, oh and 20 cars.
Of course if I sold all of it including the Compound I could afford none of that anyway.
They're not cheap, but if a person has the means to afford one that's fine with me. As far as I know they just have one association fee. http://www.automotorplex.com/page.php?id=15
Exactly, its $100 a month, plus the cost of the unit, plus the cost of how you want to retrofit it. I'm assuming that you pay the water/sewer/electricity as well.
I'm betting the Association fee goes to the people that work there year round, security, maintenance, etc. So when you goto their clubhouse, you pay for your food, etc. Its not all inclusive.

That's pretty cool. Makes me miss the setup I used to have at my parent's place a couple of years ago. Just a gigantuan, weatherproof shed, with a generous section sealed-off as living quarters, and a wood fireplace for heating. Much more "rustic" than the one pictured, of course, but about the same size.
