Looks like the racist thug cops in town are finally getting some press. Actions like these are not new in Evansville, but rarely see the light of day.

The cop's story is that he was getting flipped off.

Which is still completely legal.

This is all kind of pathetic.

Well... I am pretty sure you can flip them off and it's OK.

Not that I would recommend it of course... especially if you are in Madison... or are...

Am I the only one to notice the guy was on a bicycle and admitted that he was in the process of (illegally I might add) running a stop sign? I'm not saying the cop is right by any stretch of the imagination, but if you're turning left and an shiny happy person bike rider blows the stop sign and starts waving at you, you'd probably be a little pig-headed, too...

According to his statement, he did not blow through the intersection. He said he wasn't planning to stop, but that the officers made a left turn in front of him before he could roll through.

And last I checked, neither running a stop sign on a bicycle or flipping off the cops (neither of which actually happened) are offenses that involve the police being allowed to use physical control.

The problem is that quite a large number of the people that want to be police are the exact people that should never be police.

Obviously there is a racial element to this particular incident, but I can say from personal experience that there are cops that don't need that pretext, or barely any provocation at all to respond ridiculously aggressively to minor, or even non-events.

The fire fighter's description of how it went down, how the cops spoke to him, and how he felt about it, is uncomfortably similar to an experience that I had a few weeks ago.

I'm gonna keep saying this until it gets fixed one way or another. The police need to quit acting like the military or take the same degree of responsibility for their actions. Preferably both.

This sounds as bad as the 3 y.o. Girl that was just cited from the police for having "aggressive" conduct in her front yard.

It really sounds like the guys who were in uniform were quite in the wrong. Sounds like this guy would have been shot if he had escalated his actions to say, thinking mean thoughts.

I'm with Kenny on this one.

Remember when the police were "peace officers"?

I never felt as free as I did when I was living in Costa Rica.

Says a lot about American "freedom," don't you think?

It does.

What were some memorable "free" moments?
