Some of you guys may remember back in July I broke my collarbone. Yeah, the guy without insurance, that's me. Well I've had nothing but trouble with this since and it's time to get this problem surgically repaired... in Costa Rica. Hey's it's about 25%-30% of the price to have it done there and I've got a lovely young lady to accompany me. I'm going to make the most of this situation. Vacation fun and surgery in one shot.

Have any of you stayed in San Jose CR? Any suggestions where to stay and what to do while we're there?

My grassroots surgery is scheduled for Jan 14.

Can't say from personal experience, but the doc's there have a good reputation in the Caribbean.

That sucks man but hey im going be down there from Jan. 2-17th and I think my travel course has us staying at a Hampton Inn and Suites. Not too horribly expensive and Ive seen pictures from the previous trips and it looks very nice. Plus there is a casino right across the street so if you're feeling lucky...

We were down there last Thanksgiving, and while it's a small country, getting anywhere takes a long time. The roads are fairly narrow, and quite twisty- figure you'll average 35mph getting anywhere.

But, the #1 suggestion- RENT THE GPS!!! Best $15 I've EVER spent.

Good luck on the surgery, and a toast to a quick recovery!

25%-30% cheaper...what about travel/hotel/expenses etc?

Find a Doc in a Strip Mall...or, if you look hard enough...a Doc in a Strip Mall with a Costa Rican accent.

This is making me think about Dr. Nick Riviera from the Simpsons.

I hate to say it but San Jose is the worst part of Costa Rica. It is a typical large dirty city, very similar to most larger latin cities I suppose. The taxi drivers are CRAZY, traffic signals just a suggestions etc.

I am pretty sure it a close enough to be practical, but the Pecuare River is an EXCELLENT rafting river. The scenery is great, the weather is great, the river is long, lots of variety of rapids (obviously will depend on location and time of year) and most importantly the water is WARM. Look it up. Might not be the best with a bum collar bone though.

Surgery here is $15K-$20K. Surgery there is $5,500. Airfare and hotel for two is about $2,500-$3,000 for a two week stay. Other stuff is... whatever. The hot blonde 18 year my junior that's going with me is priceless. Costa Rica FTW!

Is the Collar Bone connected to the Love Bone?

That would be the correct assumption. I'll should probably update that sometime soon.

When it comes to paying for your surgery out of pocket this is grassroots.
