I'm a schoolteacher. Specifically I teach music and am the go-to sub in the building. I get paid hourly so when summer time rolls around it's time to find seasonal work. I was planning on working at a state park. It would have been nice. I like the state park and enjoy working out side. I had applied, interviewed, done the drug test, etc. Except I did the drug test at the wrong time since they never told me when I had to do it... or something. So the state couldn't hire me.
Which is ridiculous since I've been working with kids at school and summer camps for 3+ years and that requires pretty freaking stringent background checks. But it's the government so ridiculousness is to be expected I guess.
I applied at a local Autozone cause they had a "Hiring" sign out front when I went to get brake fluid... Anyone here have experience as a Autozone employee?
Or I could work at a summer camp again but there isn't much money in that and I wanted to save up $$ for a real car project that isn't a basket-case 924. I'm getting getting annoyed with the German-ness.
Sometimes I wish I had a more practical hobby
If I was an out of work music teacher with chops I'd join a band and do some gigs. Especially wealthy Italian weddings. As a bonus, they don't give a E36 M3 if you are high. Just show up and play mediocre songs from famous Italian-Americans and then some Macarena E36 M3, and don't bang the drunk chicks until the head table leaves.

This is the best thing I've read all day.

Lulz.
...that's actually not a half-bad idea though. There is $$ in wedding gigs for sure.
ugh.. wedding bands. as a Stage Hand, I loathe wedding bands. Most of them cannot play very well as a band, they are usually late, they get drunk and obnoxious, and they eat all the food that is set aside for the band and hands
I'll drive miles past an AutoZone to get to an Advance Autoparts store.
Have you thought a parts courier may need a driver for the summer?

So what I'm hearing is there might be demand for a talented wedding band with good manners and a solid set?

Caterpillar is hiring in my area.
I did a couple summers working the counter at Advance back in the late 90's. It wasn't a bad gig between college quarters but it didn't pay much above minimum. As a seasonal or new hire you WILL be working weekends and evenings, probably lots of opening/closing shifts. I knew several older guys who still pulled weekends a couple times a month while working good jobs during the week, just to keep the employee discount.

This. I have one right up the street from my house, but I go two towns over to Advance to get parts. They are cheaper, have more in stock, and have much more knowledgeable employees.Plus I can do the whole online order thing and get great discounts.
And I slung parts at an Autozone for 4+ years. It destroyed me.

O and sorry about the job thing.

Hell yes there is an opportunity! The band at my wedding got drunk as hell on my dime, destroyed rental equipment, and were caught doing lines of coke in the bathroom.
I ended up taking them to court and had to get a writ seizing a van before I got my money back.

Was this their frontman by any chance?

My Dad was a music teacher. It's been over 30 years since I played in his wedding band. The money always flowed.
My son is a high-end videographer, but not too proud to take a wedding gig now and then. The money still flows.

It may be put up for grabs on the forum at some point but it's going to my brother if he wants it. It's beat up and is missing most of the interior right now but it did run at one point.
