Deck umbrella repair / recommendations

Long story short, my deck offset umbrella is busted. Its been used like 10 times, but is out of warranty period. It sucks. Its the crank/ratchet mechanism that failed, probably due to a 10 cent part. I can't see an easy way of fixing it or rigging it with something better :(. Anyone have any ideas?

If not, can anyone recommend an offset umbrella of high quality? This thing was like ~$120 or something, so I wasn't expecting more than a few years out of it, but this is very E36 M3ty performance. There are many that are like $500 and I'm skeptical of buying one and having something very similar happen to it. Also, nobody seems to sell any sort of replacement parts for any of these things.

Give me some ideas. I require shade on my deck.

The frame works fine... the part that's broken is what expands/contracts the actual canvas, not set the angle.

Can you just pop it open, drill a hole thru the tube and pin it with a removable pin. We go thru a 9' round one just about every year over the round picnic table, and it raises by pulling a string and then stays in place with a pin. Pull the pin and it drops down.
