My brother turned me on to disc golf about ten years ago when I lived in Gainesville FL. I was hooked for about a year, but it was tough to get friends interested, and I gave it up for a while. I got my "other" brother into it a few years ago, and we played every weekend for a year or so, until he took up "real" golf.
Anyway, now that he's felt the economic crunch, he's stopped paying 40 bucks a round for golf, and gone back to good, cheap fun. He's "secretly" been playing with some friends for a few months now, assuming I wasn't interested anymore. Anyway, we've played the past couple weekends, and it's been good, cheap, outdoor fun (not to mention low-stress excercise.) So far, I've spent 15 bucks on a good distance driver, but that's been the only out-of-pocket expense.
Any other players here?
I've tried..... i even have a full "bag?" from thediscshoppe, but i can't throw these things to save my life.
I can throw an Ultimate disc with no problems, but i think the golf discs are just too small.

Understandable. If you're right handed, the disc will usually dive left. The severity and timing of the dive will depend on the disc, and how it's angled when you release it. A good grip is pretty critical too.
If you want to ditch your bag and discs, lemme know. I haven't gone "full dork" and purchased a bag yet, and I still don't have a putt & approach disc.

i tried disk golf about a month ago and actually had more fun than i thought it would.. i at first thought is would seriuosly suck.. but it actually turned out to be a real good time.
Wife and I just picked it up about 2 weeks ago, this is nice and timely.
Out here in Phx we have quite a few courses, including a dedicated shop.
Have a distance driver, a mid and a putter, fun so far!
I live about 3 miles from a large course. Never tried it tho I see people playing all the time. I always think of Mark Twains quote "Golf is a good walk spoiled" If I'm walking thru a field I want a shotgun or rifle in my hands to shoot something I can eat.
I played when I was in highschool in the late 70's. My PE class was "Hiking and Backpacking" and we would go to the park and play Frisbee Golf. The park just set up official catcher thingies then.

Wow. That's pretty awesome. The big box stores around here don't really carry much of a selection.
