Bumping this back up. Frustrated with time warner raising my rates for the third time in 60 days. What did you end up doing, and are you happy?

Direct TV was installed Saturday. Tech was nice and listened to my concerns/suggestions about the install. Not sure how I feel about the dish bolted to the side of my house, but the picture is good and I did not want it on my roof. Bought the cheapest pkg, but it includes MAV and Velocity. To my suprise, I am now getting 1080 signal, Comcast was 480 and 720 with their HD. Still waiting for my AT&T internet stuff, its been over a week now.
Price will be 45% cheaper than comcast for the first year, 30% the second. Basiclly the same channels, though I had to give up the Weather Channel and FXX. Wasn't worth going up 2 tiers to get them.
Finally got my AT&T internet install kit yesterday. This is the result of several phone calls to Direct and AT&T. They found my order, but no sign of it being filled/shipped. Plenty of finger pointing at each other, AND they want to charge me more than I was quoted for the service. Arrghh. Person I needed to talk to was out, will call back in within 2 days. That would be Xmas eve. They called on the 26th, I'm ok with that. Another hour of disscussion and they trimmed by tv bill a bit to make up the difference.
Tried to set up the modem today, won't connect. Another 45 minutes on the phone and they think there is an issue outside the house....we'll see tomarrow.

I've been looking at switching from Charter to either DirectTV or Dish but in the end we decided that dropping the Charter cable boxes and building a Tivo-based whole-house DVR solution was actually more cost effective. Well, at least as long as we can live without the on-demand service.
we have Charter ... bundled land line (yes to the luddite accusations), internet (pretty darn quick), and cable ... totals out to ~$155 per mo
don't know what dropping cable from the bundle would leave us and best guess as to pricing for either of them (sports minded for me, local and things like Hallmark for 91 yrO Mom)
oh, forgot ... what kind of contract is required ? with Charter, I CAN cancel at any time ... a real threat will probably bring the price down for a while ... eventually I'll have to actually leave them to make the threat work
i have Dish... the girlfriend has Directv.
i'll take the Dish, mostly because they grouped the channels together better... there is also the "primetime anytime" feature that records all the primetime shows on the 4 major networks on one tuner, which leaves 2 tuners to record other stuff while i'm at work.
Ok, AT&T guy was out today, fixed an issue at the main box thing down at the end of the block. My interwebz works via AT&T now.
Called Comcast to disconnect my service, they lied, said they had offered to lower my bill the last time I called. They hadn't. I most likely would have kept them had they made a decent offer at the time. They pitched me a deal for $100 a month. Not good enough for me. They get there equipment dumped in their lap Saturday...
call them on their lie ... but this can't be with whatever CSR that answers your call ... this has to climb upstream as far as you can in the client retention group ... someone has to understand that they really are a bunch of E36 M3heads ... won't do any good, but you can be sure that the phone answering CSR couldn't really care less whether you stay or not
only the client retention group have any care about that ... and when you point out the lie of the offer, and that you MIGHT have stayed ... who knows .. after you contract, when your prices start going up, you might get a really good deal from them sometime down the road
