Accept no substitutes. This is what I carry.

That is the substitute for the H&K

My brother-in-law has the P220 and I have the USP, honestly they are both superb - I prefer the balance and the feel of pull on the H&K but I would not hesitate to say you can pretty much wrap up any automatic pistol discussion with either one.

In all honesty I have never fired a USP but I have heard they are a superb weapon. I have always been a fan of SIGs and currently have the P220 and a P230 that I carry as a pocket gun. I think when you get to the level of SIG and H&K it is just a matter of a few personal preferences like balance and trigger pull. For me the SIG is about as perfect as it gets, fits my hand like a glove and the trigger pull is right where I want it.

For a gun I carry and keep in the car...I carry a Makarov.

It's oddly chambered in the 9x18. I could convert it to .380 but there's no need for now. It shoots reliably. Holds 15 rounds. Has a steel frame so durability is a non-issue. It's a military weapon so you can carry it cocked and locked. I don't, but you can if you feel the need to be split seconds away from firing.

The best part is if the gun is stolen, lost, whatever...I'll walk away and not bat an eye. It was cheap to buy. Under $250. I wouldn't feel that way if I carried a $500 Glock.

These are neat guns and 9x18 ammo is cheap. I really like the way they shoot. You must have the newer style with the double stack mag.....most I've seen hold 8+1.

I've never shot a 29, but all of the glocks I've shot have done gun stuff superbly. They may not look shiny and stroke egos as well as other guns, but they do the shooting thing as well as anything.

I guess mine is newer. I didn't research it much. I believe it's German though.

It shoots very well thanks. I enjoy shooting it more knowing what kind of bargain it is.

Well here's the disadvantages coming from a guy that carried a 4" 1911 around for years. I'm 230 and 6' for reference.

Unless you're a pretty big guy and tend to dress on the loose side or wear a suit jacket all the time it's going to be hard to conceal. It's not impossible of course but wearing a normal length T-Shirt that ends just below your belt buckle and jeans is pretty much out of the question.

They're pretty heavy and despite what some gun forums will say, hauling around a gun that size eventually starts to wear on you even using a small of the back or belly holster.

They're also big enough that when you get in and out of a booth with a normal in the pants holster it'll knock on the booth and you'll get some strange looks. Again been there done that.

Honestly I like 10mm and the conversion kit to make it a .45 acp is awesome but I wouldn't carry it.

You can but what I've found is that you need to dress around the gun not just toss it in your pocket like an LCP. If you dress like that every day that won't be a problem but with me at least it took a rework of the wardrobe and I started losing weight. That made it a bit of an issue.

Obviously your mileage will vary depending upon how you're built.

same here....I got mine thinking it's such a good deal I'll be happy if it shoots. I was very pleased after running some ammo through it and now it's one of my favorites.

I use a SmartCarry Security model with the .40 on one side, a mag on the other - I can even wear it with shorts or sitting down. The only thing I can't really do while wearing it is a lap belt in the car so I just put the pistol in the door pocket when I'm driving.

I rarely carry unless I'm going to the range or out camping but for the times when I do - like meeting someone to buy/sell stuff from craigslist it is a nice comfortable way not to look lopsided.

My Baby Eagle is hard to conceal, heavy brick but I LOVE it. LOL Need to take my concealed carry course and then get a concealed weapon. The 2.5lb Baby Eagle is a big girl.

Interesting. I used an elastic abdomen holster at one point. It seemed to get in the way constantly. I'm also a bit on the, oh lets say, sasquatch end of the spectrum around my stomach and chest, and I don't believe in "manscaping." The elastic band tended to yank out hair and be generally sweaty when I used it, which lead to to mostly carrying around the 1911 in an Uncle Mikes neoprene holster. I also wasn't willing to go the thunderwear route because the deep concealment of an all steel 1911 in Florida weather just means rust from water in places I only clean in the shower.

That's pretty much what lead to get a LC9. As much as I love the 185 grain Winchester silvertips, and the feel of a 1911 it was becoming a chore to carry it around on a daily basis. Of course this was mostly in Daytona Beach where I didn't get on real well with the humidity. Everyone's got a preference sadly mine isn't best suited for my particular build.

I carried a Sig P229 all day everyday for work for a while. I hated it. Too heavy, trigger sucked, too long a reach to the trigger. Full house 10mm loads especially in a light sub compact size gun would be more than I would want to deal with. If it were me, I'd go with a G19 or G23. Light enough for all day carry, still concealable, and totally reliable.

You aren't going to be firing full power loads out of sub-compact 10mm (more than likely). So you'll be firing loads that are closer to .40S&W in terms of power. But you'll still be paying more. And that's important. Being good with a carry gun is hard, and takes constant practice. With 10mm checking in over $0.50/round, can you afford to put in the necessary practice?

Plus ammo is hard to find, self defense loads are insanely expensive (my carry loads, Rem. GOlden Sabers, cost less than plinking 10mm).

And lastly, there isn't any significant evidence that 10mm is any better at killing people than any other round.

But if just want a sub-compact 10mm then the 29 is your best bet.

I carry a Glock 19 in a Crossbreed Supertuck, no reloads, every day.
