Says the man who lives in Canada. I am sorry but if I am going to be hanging out outside at a BBQ or something during the summer in Alabama I am wearing shorts.
  • Also lives in Canada.

I wear shorts at every opportunity, usually with a tank top, but in spring and fall, with a T shirt. As soon as the weather gets north of 10C, I'm in shorts. As for the Gym comment, I'm 52 years old, and probably in better shape than you. Punk.

Now, regarding the purse, stop carrying so much stuff around. I've reduced what I carry to a very small velcro wallet, 3 keys on my key ring, and sometimes a small oldschool slide out phone, and that's still too much. Cargo shorts stopped being cool just about the time they came out.

Some think he wears the tight tight pants, but won't admit it.

Now HERE is a real option I'm surprised no one has yet thought of. Don't we all remember Roos, the shoes with pockets, and probably most owned a set in our younger days. Well they're still around! I'll bet they'll hold keys in one and maybe the money clip in another, then a knife on the ankle unless you're in shorts or jorts, then you'll want it on the thigh like a garter belt. After that the rest can go in the tight pants pockets.

Ha! Keep your long pants north of the border, hockey boy. Here in south Texas we old guys are rocking shorts from May to October.

Hockey pants ARE shorts you know.

It's 90 degrees here today. Long pants are not an option.

Satchels are a replacement for briefcases. I've been carrying a Timbuk2 bag for years, they really are indestructible. But it's not for stuff that would otherwise go in my pockets, it's for papers, more papers, sunglasses cases, lunches, cameras, laptops, flashlights and all that crap. I've supplanted it with a leather satchel now just because I like leather, but the Timbuk2 still comes out when I need it.

Seriously, check out Carhartt pants. They've often got side pockets that are really subtle, not your typical cargo pants. Their shorts are good too.

I wear shorts for half the year because otherwise I would burst into flames. I was not bred for this heat. Then again, I also haven't worn a tie since...umm...I got married, I think.

You could rock a set of these and stuff your crap down in at the ends. Might not need the knife anymore, either.

That or get the timbuk2. They're kind of the leatherman of bags.

I carry one of these.

It is usually within 50 feet of where I am. It has everything needed to survive for 72 hours including a change of clothes, energy bars, water and water filter, first aid supplies, flashlight, lighter, batteries, pen and paper, compass, bug repellent, 5X7 nylon tarp, checks, $100 in cash, solar phone charger, BP meds, and my Spot.

Fairly often, I end up in the middle of nowhere, with no cell coverage. I've been known to take detours that consist of 30 miles of dirt roads, with no signs of civilization. I like to be prepared. I got into the habit of carrying the bag, now I feel naked without it.

And if the temps are above 80, I'm wearing cargo shorts and sandals or flip flops if at all possible. Don't like it, don't look.

Yes. I went over to one from a backpack and I would do it again. Mine is big enough to even carry a(2 actually) 1L thermos.

Hmm...

wallet: right rear pocket

Keys: left front pocket

Knife (always with me): right front pocket

smarty phone: shirt pocket.

during work days, my office key card lives in my left rear pocket.

Chargers, cables and crap live in a laptop bag (that rarely actually has a laptop in it).

What is that last one that looks like a strap? That seems perfect for all day traveling.

For all you knuckleheads who can't read, the issue isn't that it won't fit in regular pants pockets. It's that sitting on a wallet or phone while riding a train for hours is retarded. Wearing cargo shirts/pants isn't an option where I'm typically headed. I'm not carrying a laptop or it's big bag.

The question was what are my options because I normally achieve this with cargo pockets. It was not "please explain how to be more uncomfortable while carrying less".

I vote for the utility vest RossD posted. Wear it when you can, then carry it like a purse when you don't want to wear it.....OR make your wife carry it for you and get some payback.

Pockets for all the things. I heard them advertised but have no experience with the product.
