My verizon planned phone is up for renewal.

I've got my eye on the Nexus 6 due to it being a pure android phone that will always get updates from our Google overlords.

But, It's a huge freakin device.

My wife has the Galaxy S6 already and it seems nice, but the battery life is less than desirable.

I would love an the S6 Active for the rugged features, but it's only on ATT

I'm coming from an HTC One M7 and honestly have no desire to buy another HTC unit (3 Warranty replacements so far)

Are you planning to stay with Verizon?

Work contracts. I get to choose the phone, they choose the service.

OK. In that case I'd go for the Nexus - I've never been super happy with the Samsung Android variant. Mind you, for me the 5.5" displays on my iPhone and my OnePlus One are about as big as I'm willing to go, so I'd agree with the "freaking huge" part.

If you can get Sony Xperias on Verizon, those are probably worth a look, too, as you can get Sony to unlock the bootloader and then just drop an alternative ROM if you're so inclined. Stock Sony Android is a little Errr..... No for my taste but if you can stick something like Cyanogenmod on there, that might make it a pretty good phone as the hardware is actually decent.

Nexus. Buddy has the S6 and after 2 months he hates it. Buggy, and my LG G3 now runs circles around it with better battery life.

G4 might be worth a look as well, but the specs don't quite match to the Nexus.

I've been pretty happy with my droid turbo, especially going with the larger battery one. I never worry about it during the day anymore and I used to need charging in the afternoon/early evening every day. Just regular charge overnight. Sorry to be "that guy", but if you're sticking with the V, it's worth a test drive at the store if you haven't yet.

IMO, once you go with a larger screen, you won't go back. That's why when I replaced my LG G3 earlier this year, I was deciding between the Nexus 6 and Note 4, the GS6 wasn't even on my radar. I was sorely tempted by the Nexus, but for me, pure Android is about the only thing it has going for it compared to the Note which is fair amount smaller with nearly the same size screen, has a removable battery and an SD slot, a stylus, and a better camera. And, to be honest, Touchwiz is a lot less annoying than it used to be when I had my GS4. With Apex Launcher installed, I barely notice it.

Having said all that, the G3 was too big for my wife, she wanted to go back to a smaller phone and got the GS6, and it's been great for her, but her use is limited to texting, calling, pics, and Facebook.

The Turbo is another great device on Verizon. Near-stock Android and mega battery life, plus Moto build quality and radios. If I hadn't wanted a bigger screen, that's what I'd have.

I was also going to suggest at least looking at the droid turbo.

For some reason my last 3 phones haven't even lasted me a year. An LG something or other, a galaxy s3, and then my wife's old galaxy s3 when she upgraded. She went s6. Meanwhile when all my phones died I keep falling back on her really old Motorola droid x. It's barely keeping up these days but it just will not die. I'll be getting a new Motorola when I'm able to upgrade in a few weeks. Between phone and appliance issues I'm done with Samsung products.

Wait until August when a new nexus 5 is rumored to come out?

I have a nexus5. I thought the lack of a sd slot would be a big deal but it isn't. I looked at the 6 but decided to keep the 5 because of the size. My wife seems to like the s5 she has, but she isn't the same sort of user so as I am. I despise the galaxy line. I've been tempted by the leather G4 recently and I know the g3 is pretty much the same hardware as my nexus just loaded up with LG crap.

You can get a VZW S5 on ebay for cheap and it's the right size and rugged. If you aren't the sort to need the latest in spyware tracking systems and 700MP cameras... there isn't much difference from the 3 to the 6 really except processor speed.

I just this week got an LG G4 and i love it. I chose it over the S6 because of the removable battery, ssd memory expansion slot and impressive battery life; which the S6 doesn't have. plus its within 0.2 inch screen size of the Note while being physically smaller. Check that one out as well.

Android M comes out in August. The rumors that I've read put the new handset(s) out around October. A new Nexus 5 (5.2" LG) and a New Nexus 6 (5.7" Huawei) are in the works:

My wife and I both got the Nexus 6 right after it came out. We both really like them. No complaints whatsoever.

I went with an S5 in December (from an S3), but SWMBO just got an LG Gsomething-4maybe? The camera on that thing has me very jealous. Full manual adjustments like ISO, Fstop, Speed, etc.

I vote neither. Texting can be handled via stationery and the post office. When you need a quicker response, you can contact folks via a landline telephone. Save your money. Simplify.

It took longer than I thought it would for this post to be made.
