Me too, question is 4 or 5 digits at this point.
I hope you're including the ones to the right of the decimal point. I'm usually around the break even point.

Nope, no .00 in that. The total that I owe each year between state and federal is astronomical.

I love tax time, the one perk to being poor I guess.

We're gonna put almost all of it towards debt, with maybe some for a bedroom suite or a new washer and dryer. I'd like to save some for a deposit and maybe a few months rent on the garage I'm trying to get.

DON'T DO IT!

Ha, just kidding. That's awesome.

I usually get somewhere in the high 3 digits, more if they keep sending me that "Making Work Pay" credit that I never fill out paperwork for but they always send me anyway (government at work...?). So for me it's probably replenishing my savings after purchasing the upright bass I referenced in another thread. Not so exciting

I hope to have enough to buy a sandwich. I'm usually +/- $10.

I'm thinking meatball sub this year.

Put it towards a new (to me) van, or if I've already done that, savings.

Though in the eight years or so I've known my girlfriend, I've never put into practice the advice she related to me from her father: "When in doubt, buy a guitar."

I should really get around to that. I'm always in doubt...

if you get money back, then you are doing it wrong.. if you get more money back than you pay in, then you are a part of the almost 50% of the country that doesn't pay any income taxes.

I'm waiting to see how being married changes our tax situation. There is a chance that my wife still has, IIRC, some unpaid student loans that gets taken from her return. I'm waiting to see what happens this year.

Otherwise Vet bill first, 4 cats need fixed and shots. Then either debt or possibly into a newer car for me as mine is rusting out at a dangerous rate.

Tires for the Burban, front wheel bearings and c/v shafts for the Scoob. Some of it will go into the "we need a bigger house" fund.

Speaking from experience here.... The govt is going to get their money. You are still better off to file together, but fill out the IRS paperwork to get YOUR share of the refund, as you don't owe the debt. It is possible.

WTF is a tax return, its been so long since I got one. My best hope each year is that my bonus check from work covers the taxes owed plus pays a bill or 2 if Im lucky.

Will that be more involved than going thru turbo tax?

File like normal... You will then get some paperwork back explaining what I just said. But watch out, the IRS will try to pull a fast one if you get any money back and not tell you about the fair share crap. BTDT.

There's a form for that. I forget the number, but you fill it out and they leave you your cut and take her cut. BTDT,

I'm still waiting for my W4, so I'm not sure if I'm getting anything back yet...

I have less mortgage interest to deduct and my return gets smaller and smaller.

Whatever I get back will probably go towards insurance bills due in April.

Well, the only reason I'm getting money back is because of my UK rental property and my wife's student loans. Unfortunately the rental cost my a lot last year .
