I travel quite a bit for work. It's mostly leave on Monday & home no later than Friday at least once a month. Had 19 trips last year and had to cancel one and delay one due to gubment furloughs. This year I spent 2 1/2 months straight in Korea and have a trip to Texas in a couple weeks. Plus several more in the planning stage. My wife doesn't like to travel and babysits our grandson during the week plus is extremely active with her church so she stays busy. She's not very technological and doesn't deal with computers very well, only what I setup for her. Been trying to get her to try Facetime or some other video chat but she won't mess with it. It mainly has to do with the fact she doesn't read English well. She speaks English pretty good but doesn't read English. She's Korean and English is a second language for her. I have friends with jobs that have them away for months at a time. Facetime is their go to link home. Since we both grew up without the modern internet and me being retired military, my wife is used to me being gone. Biggest difference now is she knows where I'm going and we can talk on our cell phones more. Even though we don't that much, usually a call home when I get settled and maybe a call before I come home. I always tease her about it giving her a heads-up to kick the boyfriend out. When I was in Korea this year I called home weekly on my work blackberry (they allow limited personal use, especially overseas).
I think we both like the 5-day or less trips every few weeks I go on. I think she likes the me-time. I will admit that it does interfere with the motorsports hobby. I only autocrossed 3 times last year and haven't this year yet. Haven't even got to work on my toys yet this year.
When I first started work here my family lived 180 miles from here and I commuted on weekends home. That got old, didn't have time to do much at home on weekends. When our house sold a year and half later the family moved to where I worked.
