I agree with your apparent distrust of that comment. It's pretty weird.
But there is a whole lot more to that article, and I certainly wouldn't focus on one oddball comment.
By doing so, you essentially negate the entire article by suggesting it is questionably written.
I think there is a lot of drama and hype in that article, but also that it raises some very interesting points.
And the most significant points in it (like the unholy lovefest between politics, business, and the media, or the weakness of both parties to engage out of fear) are both true, and very important.

I also don't believe the word "hair" is accurate. In person it appears to be more like fine strands of copper wires.

That is kind of my point though. A rather absurd comment in an article does make me tune out the entire article, which, as you stated, is likely unfortunate.
It's a bit like when I was listening to Jessie Ventura being interviewed. I was thinking "OK, this could be interesting, he has some interesting angles on things and seems like a reasonably smart guy". At one point he talks about how he talked to a general about how thing are being kept from the public and made the statement "do realize how fast you could fly from New York to Los Angeles if you didn't have to worry about gravity"...

he's talking about a problem that is not really a problem. Illegal Immigration is down compared to years ago (no jobs) and we are deporting them back in higher numbers than ever. Trump is just pandering to the lowest common base of the GOP..
And the GOP can't get rid of him. He has threatened to go Independent if they censure him.. so he could wind up doing to the Republicans like Nader did to the Democrats in 2000.
As somebody who has worked for him and seen what his business dealings are like.. he thrives on being in the spotlight. He will say anything and do anything to remain in the spotlight. If this country is not already close to rockbottom, he would completely run it into the ground if he got elected.

He is the one that pushed to have more than three casinos, he is the one that pushed to eliminate entertainment, he pushed hard to keep the Atlantic City Expressway from reaching the Marina District (he thankfully lost that fight) and he is one of the main reasons Steve Wynn pulled out and will now not open the MGM/Mirage in AC.

He also played a large part in killing the USFL, or at least accelerating it's death.

I think that's why he is so popular. I don't think he's the answer, but I also think the answer needs to be a true American Patriot, not a politician. Unfortunately, no one like that is currently a candidate. One thing is for sure. He wouldn't be at the top of the polls if people weren't looking for something different.
