On that specific route, Bonneville Salt Flats.
Keep in mind that around this time of the year it's still "get stuck in the salt and pay $$$$$$ for the tow" season.
Taking the drive out to the edge of the salt is still worth it. It's only a couple of miles off the exit.
I made it to 35 mph before I chickened out.
I was towing a 31' travel trailer at the time.

Better than the Bass Pro Pyramid in Memphis?! I'm always down for a gun/car/plane/mousetrap museum but they're also more fun with my usual copilot. Although he's less of a gun/plane guy so I'm all about that idea.

Didn't realize you lived in Kinnakeet at some point. There's enough oil in an ugly that the US is about to invade

Nashville east is a lot of fun but I've done it a few times. The Lane is amazing as is the Tail of the Dragon. When we feel less covided on that route we're planning on visiting Wheels Through Time which looks like a great museum for two Motor Harley Davidson Cycles non-enthusiasts.

Yup, I lived across the street from the askins creek store and could walk to the Canadian hole.

I haven't been to the Memphis one, but they are similar in size. The Springfield one has this inside though:
Huge aquarium
We got stuck in Springfield for a week on our cross country trip and stayed across from the Bass Pro Shops for most of it. We went there quite a few times and ate at Churchill's a lot. The aquarium is massive and a day all in itself.
The Cosmosphere is spectacular if you like space too and it was a shock to walk in and see a whole sr71 plus a space shuttle.

If you're willing to take a detour to the San Juan mountains in SW Colorado, I'd recommend it. The million dollar highway runs through Silverton & Oray, I've only been there in the winter (snowboarding at Silverton), but I've vowed to make it back in the summer. Ouray has natural hot springs, so plan to spend a night there, the isn't much light pollution in that part of the state so seeing the stars from the hot springs is pretty cool. Snow may still be a risk at this time of year, it's at +10,000 feet.

If taking Hwy 50, make sure you read Steven Kings "Desperation" befor you go.
Whirly Gig park in Wilson NC is interesting, although 4/20 is the best day to visit it.

Seriously... just go here, click on a state, and it shows a map of all the things you could possibly want to see. The dinosaur statues from Pee Wee's big adventure, the fur-bearing trout, the world's largest road runner, Doc Holliday's grave, Nuclear blast sites, World's largest JFK head, World's largest roll of toilet paper, Bonnie and Clyde museum,
I mean, part of your trip follows parts of Rt 66. That is the friggin Mecca of roadside attractions.
There is nothing in Cisco, UT anymore. It's right beside the interstate - basically, about 10 miles of frontage road - but don't expect much. I think it might actually be for sale.
I see that one of the dots is basically on my home town. Nothing to see here, move along...
The Cosmodrome is on my list of places to visit.
Although I haven't made it, my parents visited the Black Canyon of the Gunnison in Colorado.
They both said it was spectacular and well worth the trip.
Black Canyon of the Gunnison
Take a while and really LOOK when you go through Glenwood Canyon CO. It's a series of tunnels, bridges, and the whole time you're traveling right beside the Colorado river. Breathtaking.
The bad news is that it's all under construction right now
The good news is... that it's all under construction right now. You have no choice but to experience it.... slowly.
US50 from Fallon NV to Delta UT is amazing. Lovely old little tows, breathtaking views and hundred mile stretches of NOTHING. Then I caught south-eastern UT near dusk after a rainfall. Perfect timing. I could have gone further than Grand Junction tonight but I want to see western Colorado in the morning. I hope everything is in bloom.
I might cancel my trip through WV as I'm still having horrid clutch hydraulic problems so the fewer shifts between GJ and RDU the better.

Glad you enjoyed 50! If you took any, post some pics when you have time!

Not much in bloom quite yet, I think you're just a couple of weeks early. The cacti are just starting to bud.
We do have a few Jeep specialists in town, you could stop by Barney Brothers Off-Road and ask about your clutch.

Sadly no photos. There was a light snowfall before me so a lot of the higher elevation parts of the journey had a little white dusting. Very neat. Love seeing the dust on the evergreens through the Humboldt-Toiyabe Forest.
This morning the drive from Grand Junction to Denver was perfect. Just a little weather ahead of me to put some mist up on the peaks. Red rock, green trees and mist. Picturesque!
I also got a tour of a snowboard factory that builds custom snowboards. If you're into CNC routing, bending or cutting or have interest in composite molding it is amazing. I'm not sure anything I saw can be taken into my work building/repairing surfboards but seeing behind the scenes of a tangentially related trade was really neat.
