Practicing 1. Releasing the clutch slowly to find the engagement point and 2. Feathering the gas/clutch on a hill and just rolling back and forth a couple inches for a minute or two REALLY helped me more than anything. But basically, if you're stalling, you're not giving it enough gas. Give it more gas. And I don't even bother with the 'feathering' ordeal on hills anymore. Maybe it's "cheating," but I feel like using the ebrake is a lot easier on the car, and I never have to worry about rolling into the jackhole who's parked himself 1/2" off my bumper.

Read this entire thread, pick dome good info and you'll have no problem. It becomes second nature and you will be controlling the car in ways you hadn't thunk possible. Most of all don't stress or worry. Learning is the easy part.

Thanks for the reassurance. My car will be a 6-speed and has pretty close "gates" and i hear a lot about people mis-shifting them and bending valves. That'll be my worry once i get good enough with a stick to bring it to the track.

For the love of your engine yes, be careful. My brother had one of those with a stick, he made it about 6000 miles before kablamo. His water pump, oil pump, and valves all went bye bye, along with EVERYTHING else because the idiot tried to drive it home. We kept a few of them for fun, and they sure are bent to utter hell. It makes me glad I have a rotary! No valves to bend- Just apex seals to blow... and LSx to insert... after winning the lottery...
