I go to actual dumpster fires all the time.

Dumpster fires are a genuine pain in the ass. Sure, you can just fill them with water, but we also need to pull everything apart to make sure that there are no bodies in there. And, people tend to dump their meth labs in there, so there's that. And they always smell bad, even under the best of circumstances.

Dumpster fires truly suck.

So can a thread about dumpster fires also be a dumpster fire?  laugh

You mean that's  not  how I'm supposed to empty my dumpsters?

Tie it into politics, you'll get there pretty fast.

Woody, you do good work.

As a garbage man, I can imagine the pain in the ass that is to deal with.

Somewhere recently a parked truck caught on fire and it wound up catching all the trucks it was parked near on fire as well. They lost 11 trucks in total.

For some reason I'm curious. What percentage of dumpster fires have dead bodies?

The percentage is low, but when it happens, it is memorable.

I have no hard data to back this up, but my guess is that we are more likely to find a homeless guy in there, rather than a mob snitch.

^That particular dumpster wouldn't be a huge problem. We'd start filling it with water (we only carry 480 gallons). If that's not enough, we'd need a second truck to hit the hydrant, or we'd try to pull it away from the building and out from under the overhang. But you can't pump water and move the truck in the same operation (pump is PTO driven). The challenge with small ones is that they have no door. You tip them to empty them. They're a bitch to sort through.

30 yard dumpsters are really hard to move. They have a big walk-in door, but a full one holds a lot of E36 M3. And everything is wet and heavy. And it's garbage, or worse.

Apartments with trash chutes tend to have indoor dumpsters under the building. Be careful with your ashtrays.

I was thinking more intentional get rid of body but I guess the fire part would call attention to that. Not that people getting rid of extra bodies tend to be smart. Down here there's been a rash of getting rid of bodies in dumpsters. I think the success ratio is about 50% of the ones we know of.

I get a lot of dumpster fires in my district. Often they are at low income apartments and are started by bored juveniles. They like to stand somewhere at a distance and watch the action of us putting them out. If the dumpster's location presents no exposure danger to anything nearby I tend to not get in much hurry to rush and put it out. The longer it burns the less fuel load inside of it anyway. I usually just lob the whole tank (700 gallons) into it to put it out. If you make too much of a fuss about it, the juveniles tend to enjoy watching and will move across the complex and start another one to get their kicks. If you're unlucky you'll get 3 or 4 in a night.

I found a live baby in a dumpster once (not on fire) but haven't ever found a dead body in one. Frankly we don't spend much time pawing through the contents though. Just fill it up with water till it spills out and hit a hydrant on the way back to the station.
