So, to a more practical question directed at residents of Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina: I am planning to travel from central Florida to an area about 2 hours north of Charlotte, NC this coming Friday mostly on interstates. Do you think I will encounter supply problems to such an extent that I should reconsider this trip?
GASOLINE OUTAGES as of 6am CT... percent of all stations in state without gasoline:
GA 15.4%
AL 1.8%
TN 2.8%
SC 13.4%
NC 24.8%
FL 4.2%
VA 15.0%
MD 3.5%
I would say yes, you should reconsider.
Good information! Can you tell me where those numbers came from?
Agree. Two stations in my county have fuel right now. The whole county.
Random news article, but I believe most are referencing GasBuddy.
Example (currently showing 28% in NC)

This reminds me of my Grandpa back in the 70's. He didn't like everything he was seeing with the fuel shortages. So he bought his own tank, buried it, and had a fuel pump in his garage.
I don't think the EPA would let you do that anymore.

But seriously folks. No gas, no diesel, no trucks, no deliveries. Do the math.
I've wondered how much fuel could be saved if the USPS and other delivery places went to every other day deliveries, except for overnight packages. On average, everyone's mail/ packages would be 1/2 a day later, would that really matter to most people?
Reducing the number of USPS delivery days has been discussed as a way to save money, but has been shot down by various political forces.
So far, no "gas panic" here in SE PA. Filled up the MINI and there was normal traffic at the Sunoco. It's on a major road near I-95 so it's usually busy, but I pulled right up to the pump. $3.89 for 93, which is normal for the area. I probably won't have to fill up again until Sunday when I'm leaving Carlisle to return home.

Only if you tell them, is it a problem.

There are also laws against filling unapproved gas containers. Crack down on those laws, fine the station owners, watch compliance go way up and stupid people filling Styrofoam coolers with gasoline go way down.

Some shortages hit Northern Kentucky this week which surprised me this far west.
Apparently it's getting bad. Someone just caught these guys on video:

The pictures coming out from this are wild
I just went to my local gas station and filled up. No problem.
Summerville sc.
The only places where there were shortages were stations that were cheaper and they sold all their current supply yesterday.
Fuel trucks have been to those 2 local stations today and they are back open.
In other words, not a big deal locally, but we are near the port of charleston.

I'm going to guess that most of these are staged. Several of them have been beating around the internet for a while.

The pipeline is back online as of 5 p.m. EST. Think the panic buying will stop?
