I bought 3 pocket knives off of eBay together as a lot. I'm not quite happy with this--some of it is that I overpaid (my fault), but I also feel that some of it is that the knives were not quite as described. But it is a very, very small niggle that I have:

The condition was described as used and “All knives are used but in good condition except for normal wear on the finish.”
In the details, the ad said: "All knives are used but in good condition. There is no damage to any knife other than normal wear on the finish. NONE HAVE POCKET CLIPS." (emphasis the sellers, this was also in red)

Well, there was only one picture. And the picture did not show the side of the knives that DID at one point have pocket clips. Now there are broken remnants of the pocket clips. I'm kind of annoyed--I thought I was bidding on knives that did not have pocket clips, not knives that had broken pocket clips. Think this is big enough to ask for a couple bucks back?

In reply to mtn:

I agree that the seller did a poor job of representing the item, if not outright mislead by omitting the relevant picture(s) and details. Whether or not I'd grouse about it would probably depend upon just how much I paid for them.

I've got $20 into the whole thing.

Hard to say. How much $$$ are we talking about? Have you already left feedback? What is the seller's feedback rating? Are do they sell enough they don't want negative feedback?

I recently bought a guitar off a "cheap guitars" FB group member. While the guitar "looks" really nice, it doesn't really play or sound quite up to my standards. Part of me is annoyed. Another part of me has to remember I'm dealing with guys who in general think $500 is a lot of money for a guitar. Right now, I'm chalking it up to "oh well... don't do that again..." but I'm fortunate enough to be in a position where the money lost won't break me.

Edit: $20? Can you still use the knives? I'd probably send the seller a note, but otherwise let it go.

As a former seller I have found that eBay is heavily biased towards buyers. They can make whatever claim they want and unless you want to take the feedback hit, you just give them refunds.

Use that info however you see fit.

In cases like that, and I've had a couple over the decades of ebaying, I usually just refuse to leave any feedback and chalk it up to experience. Or at worst, leave neutral feed back. Like "I got my stuff." With the modern rating, you could go so far as to do a "item not described properly" thing.

Is the pocket clip screwed to the handle? Can you just unscrew what is left?

I probably can. I need to find my precision screwdrivers though. Another item "lost" in the move.

This guy has about 200 listings right now, and feedback score over 30,000.

I dunno. I'll think about it. I don't want to be a jackass, but part of me is annoyed--if you're only bothered to take one picture, shouldn't you take the worst side? But thats bad salesmanship.

For $20 I wouldn't waste my time, but the Buck Knives factory is literally 5 minutes from me and I would never have bought a knife off of ebay in the first place. Unless it was something very special.

Neutral feedback, 1 star on item description accuracy, and either "items not as described" or a more detailed description in the comments.

Took a flyer on one of them. I thought it was a Made in USA Ka-Bar folder, but it was China. I bid what I thought they were all worth assuming all China knives, and I feel now that I missed on that assessment by about $5--I don't think the clip really changes it (i.e. broken vs. not there), but it was not advertised correctly.
