I know, 47 years ago?
Still a fave.

We saw it in the theater a few years ago for a one-night showing. Totally worth it.
A must see as a kid. Not as well known because it was an HBO/CBC collaboration. Fortunately, we had HBO. I like it now because it starts out kind of bleak. Pa Otter is dead, Ma, and Emmet do jobs that don't pay well. Ma hocks Emmett's tools on a chance to win a contest and Emmet destroys Ma's washtub on a chance to win the same contest. But they don't win. But they do get steady jobs entertaining at Doc Hopper's. The special ends on hope.
Plus it has the Riverbottom Nightmare Band.
I need to watch this - as a product of the '90s my default holiday entertainment choice is The Muppet Christmas Carol, so I would probably enjoy this too.
This is my favorite xmas movie by far and reinforces to my kids the fact that I am damaged goods raised by what are likely animals. None of that is false.
I'm almost 60. I never even knew this existed until about 5 years ago.
I'm not sure how that happened.
My mother and I grew up single, poor, trailer living, etc. She ended up putting herself through college and a VP of a bank, amazing woman.
I'm 54 and she still calls me Emmet. It's also the only xmas show I will watch yearly.

I can do better than that. I'm over 60, grew up watching every episode of The Muppet Show on OTA television, and never knew this existed. Possibly because it was first aired in Canadia, and looks to have been limited to pay cable in the US until I "aged out" of muppet mania.
