one of my uncles just moved from an inner ring suburb of Minneapolis to an outer ring suburb about a year ago.. he was bitching about the lack of public transportation to take him where he wants to go... he bought a Nissan Leaf that he uses to drive to either work- which is a 25 mile drive- or to a light rail station- which is a 20 mile drive- so he can ride the train to work.. he has a yearly pass of some sort to park in the parking ramp right across the street from work and he takes advantage of the people of Minneapolis by charging his car at the free electric car chargers they have installed, but he likes taking the train to "remind himself about the environment"- his words, not mine..
this is the same guy that doesn't like pedaling his bike out on the country roads around his new town because he's scared of farm dogs for some reason, so he'll load his bike into (or onto??) his leaf to drive it into the cities so he can ride his bike there where it's more "civilized" and he can use his gps thingie to post up where he rode on his facebook page for everyone to see..

I haven't read Bjorn's book, but I did watch the movie based on him and his book:

It is more middle-of-the-road than you'd think from that penn and teller clip
You are right. I was thinking of where I live here in Michigan. We have a great public transportation system. I realize its not like that everywhere.

in the city they have bus service ... not sure how inclusive the routes or how often they run ... out here in the sticks I think the buses run maybe 3 - 4 times a day .. and even then it's only on the main highway ... many folk live as much as 15-20 miles from a bus stop ...
even the larger cities in NC don't cover the 'burbs and beyond very well ...if at all
Much like others said:

You see nothing wrong with eating food that has to be grown and handled with hazmat suits?
Interesting
Yeah, it seems like there is a big difference between cross breeding plants and altering their DNA.

You can mess things up either way. lenape potato
my understanding of the hazmat suits would be to ensure they don't introduce any stray "crap" ... kinda like working in a clean room ... but I've been wrong before
