This is how I got this piece of mail. With cash visible. Believe it or not, it contains two crisp $1 bills. Who's it from? Nielsen. If I fill out a survey, I get a $5 gift card. That's somehow not as exciting as the cash.

I've gotten a couple similar things, sometimes with $2 bills...
...but absolutely never with it visible from the outside like that.
I did one of those surveys once (not sure if it was Nielsen, but it was a lot of purchasing / shopping questions). I thought it would be fun.
It was not.
It was a LOT of work, as in, a LOT of time to fill out... for a few dollars. Very much not worth it.
Bonus was I got bombarded by request to do more surveys for a few years after.
My suggestion: big pass.

I did one a few years ago, thought it was a breeze. I don't watch much broadcast TV so I think I got one more survey and they were done with me.

I'm going to give this survey a try later this evening. I'll let you know if it was worth the effort.
I just did one maybe a month ago. They sent me a crisp fiver not long after I sent it back. Nielsen is legit.
The state DOT sent out two $1's as enticement to fill out an online survey. The cash was not visible, but most people aren't going to throw out a 9x12 "official business only" envelope from the state govt.
If you fill out the survey and run a tracking app on your phone for a day, they'll give you $10 more (in gift cards). Works for me. I haven't decided if I'm going to remain at home (my standard day), or take off and drive around weird places to mess w/ their statistics...
I got one of those earlier this year and the kids were excited to get "free" money about it and I started to fill it out until I realized that this is just an analog version of all those tracking cookies from all those crappy companies that I hate. And no, I am not selling my soul for your five dollars +2 dollars
clearly, seven dollars is a drop in the bucket to how much money they think they are going to make off of me and off of my demographic, otherwise they wouldn't be handing it out, and screw them.
I got the Nielsen $1 once and tossed the survey, kept the dollar.
Figured they have statistics that show a certain part of the demographics does this so I figured I'd be in that group. Not like I asked for it to be sent to me.
I took the survey. Got my $5 Amazon gift card right away. Easy breezy. Nice. I don't mind offering my opinion, especially when someone's willing to pay for it .
I was actually (I can talk about this now) a Nielsen home, with the TV tracking and everything. Recently. Right up until lightning struck my house in fact. You may remember that incident.
The part I DIDN'T let onto at the time was there was a very real reason to believe Nielsen's equipment lead to the death of my E36 M3. It all got solved on the back end, so we're good now, but I wasn't saying much until paperwork was signed, for obvious reasons.
It's a pain, but it amused me. Won't say whether or not I recommend anyone else doing it, only that my numbers HEAVILY reflect how much I enjoy police dogs.
