It's always been some kind of guy in some kind of suit. People got their hands on giant squid corpses against much tougher odds.

From what some people were saying on one website, there's a guy in the area that runs "Bigfoot hunting tours" for tourists and is known to dress up in a Bigfoot suit and do E36 M3 like this to drum up business.
I love cryptids, aliens and all that stuff, but I have yet to be convinced Bigfoot is real. #iwanttobelieve

IMO, the unexplained swarms of giant drones are a better mystery.
Unrelated except for location: the movie "Tread" is on youtube for free. It's worth watching...in the background, at 1.5x-2x speed, while working on something else.
