I have 3 presets on my XM radio in the Abarth. Octane, Boneyard and Hairnation. I'm tired of bouncing around between only these 3 when the DJ's start talking too much (like after 5 seconds).

I remember liking Prodigy back in the day, someone mentioned Skrillex once so that's on my Pandora right now. What else should I be exploring?

The Glitch Mob is entertaining. Pandora has a dubstep station that has some variety.

EDM (more dance oriented with some dubstep):

  • Dillon Francis (Bootleg Fireworks, Without You, IDGAFOS)
  • Kill The Noise (Kill The Noise Part I, Dying, Lightspeed)
  • The M Machine (Ghosts In The Machine, Luna, everything they've produced)
  • Dog Blood (Chella Ride, Next Order)
  • Flux Pavilion (Freeway, I Can't Stop)

Electronic (not necessarily ambient but definitely not dance):

  • Aphex Twin (anything from their latest album Syro)
  • Boards of Canada (definitely ambient)
  • Sbtrkt (Higher, Temporary View, Wildfire)
  • Plaid
  • Kill Paris (Falling In Love Again)
  • Tycho
  • Röyksopp

You'd do well with Daft Punk, Deadmau5, and the like. IMO Skrillex is a hack. But that's because I hate his stupid hair and self righteous attitude.

Caravan Palace makes me think of Berlin. Electroswing is big thing out there.

Any time 'new music ideas' comes up I always suggest Waylon Jennings.

For electronic or hip hop type music check out Girl Talk, and as has been mentioned Pretty Lights and Pendulum are good too.

Dubstep seems to have a limited artist pool. I have started getting into Trap which is somewhat like a mix between Dubstep, Lounge, Chill, and Entitled rich kid.

Good electronic suggestions so far.

If you want to go a little more into the roots of the genre, Front 242 is a great place to start Trent Reznor, in all his various band forms, does an amazing job at employing a wide and varied range of electronic styles and production techniques. His songwriting can be a bit on the simple side, but the music is as dead solid as anyone else working today. The Orb shows you what happens when really smart people get really high-tech gear. Same thing with BT. And, of course, no exploration into electronic music is complete without exploring at lease one Skinny Puppy record. I'd start current, with Weapon, and maybe go back to the time when inter band strife was really bad, like Last Rights or The Process.

To expand on that, Welt by ohGr is pretty awesome as well.

Ok, some of these names I've heard before. I do have at least one Skinny Puppy CD from the 90's I forgot about (digging through the closet for that one to rip), Front242 and Trent Reznor (same time period). I just found a few Daft Punk mp3's I didn't know I had, that I must have...ahem...found online somewhere.

I remember a conversation at a rallycross about 2 years ago someone talking about dubstep. I wasn't even sure what it was (I'm old), and someone described it as two fax machines berkeleying. Now that I've heard some Skrillex I would agree.

Wasn't the signature "wub wub" bassline that characterizes dubstep first done by the Beastie Boys in "Paul Revere"? I heard the dj accidentally spun the record with the bass track backwards and thet decided it was perfect for the song.

Flux Pavilion is pretty sweet as well.

I've been kindof on a DNB kick over Wubstep, though.

If you want some more tasteful dubstep than Skrillex, try Secret Panda Society and MiTiS.

For other electro stuff, try Deadmau5, Mr. Oizo, Daft Punk, Justice, SebastiAn, Kill Paris, Quadrat Beat, Danger, Nobody Beats the Drum, Wolfgang Gartner.

Love the car!

Also, to the OP:

I like a few things off the the Discovery LP (Like really like them) but a few others don't work for me.

I have had good luck with Sleigh Bells lately too. Not a Christmas band...

Other good stuff more in the rock/electric spectrum: How to Destroy Angels (Trent Reznor side project)

Another one that me and the wife like is Miike Snow (spelled thusly)

Daft Punk hasn't released an album in the same league before or since. I hate to admit it, but they're almost a one-album wonder.

WOW, tons of good suggestions in this thread. I will toss out a few more that fall somewhere into the EDM/Trap/Dubstep spectrum

Gemini, Mochipet, Avicii, Digitalism, Uppermost, RJD2, Phutureprimitve, Celldweller

But by far, my favorites that have already been mentioned are Daft Punk, Glitch Mob, Bassnectar, Deadmau5, Pretty Lights, and Flux Pavillion

I had to babysit it a little bit, or it would start to wander, but my Glitch Mob station on Pandora is pretty solid now. Its my general go to when Im driving, at work, or cycling/lifting.

Also try BPM and Electric Area on Sirius. Not bad.
