Not mine, but in my neck of the woods. House has been vacant for awhile, the daughter of the woman who lived there is selling it. House is basically structurally sound but needs updating. It's got 2 acres, a decent sized barn, sheds, it's on a not-terribly busy road in a quiet country setting. Nice setup for a car guy, and a helluva price for this area- $133,000. Figure on putting in a new well and septic, and you're still ahead of the game.

Nobody wants to live near you, Mike. I keed, I keed!
I know. Even Katie questions it sometimes.
a couple of years ago, a lot with 40 acres of farmland, 10 acres of trees, and a 4 acre building site with a newly remodeled house and a couple of barns and other various outbuildings just across the interstate from me sold for $125k at the auction... the farmer just got too old to do it any more and wanted out so he could buy an rv and live the mobile lifestyle in his golden years, so he sold everything to the highest bidder...
Damn...maybe I should pick up a lotto ticket tomorrow.

I just can't get over the prices whenever you guys post real estate.
Up here, even needing work, that place would go for $260-$300,000.
I didn't have time to fully check out the listing, was property tax info available ? In my corner of SE PA you can find deals like that, but more often than not the taxes are too much regular folk like me.

Needs new well and septic. That ain't cheap any more.
Sheesh, I'm looking for exactly that but in SENH. It'd be $195k+ and $8-10k taxes here, though.

Has potential for a DIY'er who doesn't mind a really long commute (I commute 50 miles... each way...). When you have the septic and water re-done, have RV hook-ups installed as well. Park an RV on site for a place to live while renovating the house. This is basically what my ex-g/f's uncle did over a 20+ year period, driving up from FL every Summer and doing a bit at a time.
2 acres here would be a solid 3+ million in my zip code, without the house would be worth a bit more because you would end up tearing it down.
Man I wish I had work out where you guys live. That would be perfect for me to build a shop on.

I work in essentially the same field, and I'm near DC in the most expensive zip code in Montgomery County. 2 acres is at least $3M, though if you don't mind being away from the city it can be done for less.
That house is an hour and a quarter from my house w/ no traffic, but we love our proximity to everything, short commutes and awesome house/shops/garage more than time spent commuting.
Is it weird I think that two acres is small? Wife and I are looking for a place with 20 minimum. Heck I have seen a few places out my way that were 100 acres and under $100k. Granted they are fairly remote but there are times I could really use that.
Similar stuff at a similar price is pretty common around here. The downside is: you are near Columbia SC.
Better plan on an electric upgrade along with everything else. I bet it's got a 30 amp service with a fuse box and knob & tube wiring.
I live in Westminster, about the same distance from my job. I drive 40 minutes to the subway and then have a 25 minute ride on the train into Baltimore city center. Traffic? Well, sometimes I get behind a tractor.
Yeah, the house needs rehab, well, and a septic, but other places in this area are going for much, much more money. This is still a steal in this region.
