When you are as old as dirt wearing tri-focals it has to be a shield. 
I like shields because even if my eye is saved i don't need a piece of cutoff wheel in my teeth. A buddy had a cutoff wheel explode last week and seriously damage his shield about forehead high. He's a big shield believer also.
Got to admit I'm fairly lax about grabbing the shields because I'm wearing glasses. This thread sort of reminded me not to be so lax.
I wear 3m d490 prescription glasses. Had them for years and I think they were 40/50$? They wear ok
