I do want to get a proper race car, a Formula car would fit that, but I've decided to wait until I can put race weekends on the calendar and actually plan on making them. Kid/family stuff is only a few more years, and it's not like I'm giving up going pro by moving back my racing career 6-8 years.

Then focus on a Clown Shoe.
Can you really get clown shoes for under $15k? The last few I looked at (a few years ago) were above $20k for one that wasn't trash and prices were NOT moving down.

Vintage drag car?
I had car friends over last night and we spent more time admiring the lines of Fergus than the 911. It really is beautiful in it's own way. If I had the time to build one, I'd be golden. The issue is that I have the kitchen, bathroom and Grosh to finish, as well as Fergus before I get anything else that needs to be loved. Someday I'll have free time and be bored.
How about a kickass super fast wagon... oh wait...
How about an old school kick ads vintage wagon.... oh wait...
How about a crazy powerful minivan... oh wait....
Fine, how bout a classic 911.... oh wait....
Well then, how bout a pickup truck.... oh wait...
How bout magic spinning doritos.... oh wait....
I hate you.

And maybe that's the crux of thr issue. At some point a reasonable person says "what the hell do I do now?" If I had unlimited space/money I'd probably still top out at 5-8 cars because I like to drive what I own. Cars sitting bothers my soul. I'm not a collector.
An enclosed trailer and a collection of karts for the kids. Take them out to the Texas tracks and start your own race team.
It's too late for you old timer, time to foster the talent of the up-and-coming generation.
Besides, the wife will be so impressed, she'll buy you a 911 of your own as a reward.
Deucekid#2 is by far the most gearhead of my kids and for the last two rallycrosses he's been very not excited to even go. I'm not sure there is any support for a family race team. Which is OK. I was the only kid who hung out with my dad with his hobbies in my teen years (hunting) and none of us do it with him today. We have our own interests.
