Good lord. I'm not entirely sure what's wrong with my grandfather, but everything he makes is getting progressively spicier. Some stuff benefits, his potato soup is peppery goodness and the tomato juice is awesome hot. Other stuff not so much, his spaghetti tastes like chili and his chili is deadly.
I generally don't even like stuff really hot, since most peoples idea of good heat is just a burn that kills the flavor of anything.
My reasoning behind making this thread? I just ate his chili and I almost died. I'm also bored and couldn't think of another way to use fire from my ass as a thread title.
If you only just ate it, wait a few hours till it comes out the other end. Thread may just live up to the title!

It does, trust me.
It's so good while I'm eating it though.

Spicy is only good if it has good flavor. That Blazin stuff at BWW is horrible, because it is hot for the sake of hot.
It could be that your grandfathers sense of smell is going, and he can actually taste spicy.

It seems like the older I get, the less sensitive my palate is to hot pepper. Or I've been building up a tolerance.

So I'm not the only one that thinks that? I usually step down a level or two to the Hot- because that at least tastes pretty good.
friend of mine spices everything up to the point that even going over to their place can make your eyes water. He has gotten progressivly worse over the years... and 20 years ago we used to tease him about killing his tastebuds.. now he will complain that most foods taste "bland"
My dad usually goes extremely spicey. I like things just a step down from that.
It's a normal part of aging. You lose sensitivity for your taste buds and olfactory nerves. That is why grandma's Sunday dinner tastes and smells sooooo damn good. She can't taste the 1/2 teaspoon of salt in the recipe anymore and adds another, so she can taste it.
If you achieve actual flame, please record on video.

So, what you're saying is, there's leftovers that you won't eat? How much shipped?

yup I like hot... but it has to have flavor to go with it... i've been rocking some rooster sauce of late and it's good... not TO hot but a nice good flavor... I've never liked Tabasco as what flavor it does has isn't great... my father-in-law likes some form of hot sauce that I feel is just hot to be hot... in costa rica out in the jungle we had some great stir fry type stuff spiced up with habanero peppers... so much flavor with plenty of heat :)
I read somewhere that apparently there are more hot sauces on the market now than ever... they also are hotter than ever... and that has a lot to do with the natural loss of taste buds as people age, in this case thats the baby boomers...

For some reason, I'm thinking of Cabot's Hot Habanero Cheedar. It always gives me twice the burn for every bite.
Perhaps Grandpa's senses are getting tired; taste, smell. To him it tastes and smells the same because they're worn out. OTOH you do build up a resistance to hot stuff.
Your digestive system and your blood piping system are two separate and distict units; like coolant and oil in a car. If you start spraying blood from a place that's not an open wound, call somebody.
With the recent Bender thread in mind:

What I'm saying is I'm going to hate going to the bathroom for a few days until the leftovers are gone.

Good thing the new GRM just came out.
All I can say? Hot is good.
