Looks like the center is going to pass just south of us here in central GA, or right over us if it jogs north. Over the last 2 days they keep increasing our rain forecast. Right now it's up to 7" for tomorrow, and 60mph winds.
and we're 4 hours north of the FL state line.
All you guys in Floriday better hang on tight.
Here in Tallahasse getting ready, forecast landfall sometime early Friday am between Mexico Beach and the Suwanee River Inlet. So, we basically are preparing for a direct hit (we're in the middle of what is called the big bend area of the state, where the panhandle meets the southern peninsula. Looks to be a Cat 1 at landfall but if it speeds up it may not reach Hurricane status. Schools are closed today and tomorrow and my job is shutting down today at 12, weather will decide if we are closed tomorrow. My wife got designated critical staff at her job, she goes in tonight and will be on duty until Saturday. Haven't heard of any hurricane parties, but I'm sure one of my neighbors will have something going on, good times..
I have lots of beer and water. My place is on high ground. If we flood, i have bigger problems. I also currently inhabit the only County in the damage path not currently emergency activated.
Looks like it will miss the Tampa St Pete's area where I have family. Wet, yeah, but not underwater.
I'm in Bradenton. We got pounded with rain all day yesterday. Today a branch from my neighbor's tree broke off and dented in my truck tool box and busted the passenger wiper arm. Thankfully no damage to the truck body. Not much fun, and the rough stuff isn't even here yet.
Getting the first bands of rain in Tallahassee now. Hermine is now a Hurricane, still 150+ miles off Apalachicola. Forecasting landfall just after midnight.
Stay safe everyone! Looks like we are getting the remnants of the storm later in the weekend up here in New England. We've been in a severe drought all summer, so I'll take it.
I hate strong winds. I particularly hate strong winds at night, when I can't see whats on the horizon.
Hang on to the palm tree, Gilligan.

This. Not supposed to be that bad here, but I'm having bad flashbacks to Charlie, another Gulf storm that was supposed to pass well to our north as a tropical storm--before it changed its mind and drove its Cat 1 self right over my house. Also at night.
I've filled the tub and shocked the pool, since any power loss would also kill my water supply (we're on a well). And, of course, there's SPAM and vye-inny sausages in the pantry. I'm planning on binging Netflix to complete the preparations.
Stay safe, everyone.

And its easier for me. I just have to watch out for tornados, and I live nowhere near a trailer park. A sustained 100 mph wind would have me pretty badly curled up in a corner.
Good luck Floridians!! Just remember, if it wasn't for bugs and hurricanes 90% of the country would move down there. This just reminds the fair weather gawkers to stay away.
By the time it gets up here it will be 5-10 inches of rain and gusty winds. My total prep was to shove the totaled Mustang back in the shop, so I cold pull the tent down, and pick up anything that would blow around the yard.
I'm kind of disappointed. I was planning a run up the Santee river, to find the shoals again and scout a couple of camping spots. 10 inches of rain will put them under 3' of water again.
Good luck to everyone that is in the danger zone. Have a safe couple of days.
In reply to Marjorie Suddard:
Have Mr. Tim get ya sum crackers fer em vy innies and fire up the ginny rator on the hauler ifn yur skeered. Be safe yall.
It's been a total non-event on the Atlantic coast so far. Well, in St Augustine anyway. I think all the kids here are going to have a nice day off for no real reason tomorrow, not that they're complaining.
They've canceled school for tomorrow here. Again, I'm in Georgia, 4 hours drive from the Gulf. WTH?!
