My wife mentioned that the oven door is squeaking like a mental patient when it gets hot. Ordinarily, I take care of squeaky things with silicone spray, but I don't want the food to taste all synthetic. Is there a spray lube that is approved for food prep areas?

veggie oil? does said hinge see the heat from inside the oven or is it outside the seal?

You could try food-grade mineral oil, which is sold for wiping down stone countertops, etc.

Just because you'd eat it, doesn't mean that the rest of us would.

I put veggie oil on Katie's hamster wheel. I'd think it would work for an oven, too.

Katie has a hamster wheel? Wait, Katie the hamster or Katie your sister?

What about something like the grease used to help cakes come out of their pans in one piece?

Katie, my sister, has a hamster wheel, which she bought at Petsmart. She keeps it in her hamster cage, where her hamsters run on the wheel, which is hers.

I'm assuming she'll repossess it if the hamsters default on their payments.

Outside of what Hess posted, have you check the oven manufactueres website for that?

(basic veggie oil is a bad choice- it will go rancid eventually, and it does burn)

That sounds like the makings of a good GRM thread....I bought the really sweet hamster wheel and now I need to find a hamster or two....wasn't there a similar thread about buying a car for the new set of wheels someone picked up a while back?

Regular old white grease should do you, its edible (IIRC). We use it with our water pumps that we run off the accessory belts with the city of Red Deer when pumping fire hydrants because it is not toxic/bad for you.

Pam, or it's equivalent works great. We used non stick spray on our doors when I managed restraunts, for when they got squeaky.
