How can I tell the year of a Ford Van ? I have the Vin, but I don't know which letter/number denotes the year. It's an older model.

If it's a 17 digit VIN, the 10th digit gives the year. From 1981-2000 that will be a letter. A = 1981, B= 1982, etc. 2001- up will be a number which corresponds with the last digit of the year.

Pre-1981 depends on the maker. For instance, old Mercedes had two digits in them which were the year reversed, i.e. 75 = 57. The VIN plate on some older vehicles also gave the model year but it was not coded into the VIN. For instance, my Jensen Healey's VIN is 1110-19015. It's a 1974 but there is nothing in the VIN which denotes that; the first 4 digits say which market it was built for and the last digits are the accumulated build from 10001. The VIN plate gives the build as November 1974 which makes it a very late 1974, all 1975 year J-H's had catalytic converters and mine does not.

Post the VIN and maybe we can figger it out.
