...so I had my practice manager text my wife while I was in surgery.

I always remember before she does. This year was no exception. Wife's happy.

We celebrate each other every day, so the anniversaries, while important, aren't as significant for us. Last year was the 25th, and I told her that it was a good start.

 I'm so lucky.

Tim and I observed our first few anniversaries on the wrong date because neither of us remembered the right one. Found one of our invites a few years into our marriage and told him, "Uh, we've been doing it wrong." Then we laughed a lot. You're right--the point is not that single day, but how you live all of them.

I have every special day for my family and loved ones saved in my phone's calendar.  2 weeks out, 1 week, and day of.  The ones further out are to allow me to get something in the mail as needed

I still forget a buttload of them.

I got married on 2/14.

I never forget but getting dinner reservations sucks!

Not on our actual anniversary, but during a conversation with some friends my wife quoted the wrong day just a year or two after we were married. I still tease her relentlessly 14 years later.  Tradition!

Ours was the 17'th of May.

35 years.

I remembered on the 23rd and said, hey, what's the date? Guess what we missed?  We laughed. Oh, how we laughed.

It's not important to either of us.

We celebrated with KFC

Wife forgot one year.  That year I got a project boat cause she felt bad.

She's been better about remembering since.

You'd think I wouldn't forget but...

Apparently you only need to forget once, then you're never allowed to forget ever again.

Between us we forget most years

The only thing she cares about is the expensive dinner she usually gets out of it.

That’s a good thing

That's my anniversary too, will be 18 years next month.

A friend of mine got married on the winter solstice, he describes it as either "the darkest day of the year" or "the longest night of the year", depending. :)

My dad got married on his birthday!  He never forgot it.

April 17th. 12 years ago.  I really dont have a unique way to remember, but it works because we dont go out or do anything big.  Usually just something nice for each other (cook a favorite dinner, or make a cake).

But like many have said, it's more than just a one day thing.

We met on a double date where we weren't each other's date.

5 weeks later, on April 25th, we got married on the way out of town at a lawyers office in a shady part of town. Everyone we knew thought we wouldn't survive a year.

That was 35 years ago.

I'm not married but have been with the same beautiful lady for 21 years. Neither of us cares about birthdays, but a few years back I decided to be a nice guy and take her out for a nice dinner for hers. I went and bought her a present, made dinner reservations, came home from the shop early and got dressed in decent clothes for a nice night out. When she came home from work I told her that there was nothing here for dinner and we should go out. We went to a place where we've gone a few times before and she was cool with it. While there, I asked her if she "heard from anyone today" since family and friends would normally call to wish her a Happy Birthday. She replied "no". Strange I thought, but maybe they were waiting to call later tonite. In talking more, she never mentioned anything about her birthday although that wasn't strange as we don't normally do anything on those days anyway. But, 3/4 of the way through dinner I started to think it was a bit strange and started thinking really hard. It's the 18th of February and I went out of the way this year to do the right thing, right???? Well, then it hit me! It's the 18th, so I got that part right. It's February, I got that part WRONG!!! Her birthday is April 18th!!! Damnit! When it hit me, I started smiling and she noticed. She asked me "what was so funny" and I replied "nothing", but I couldn't stop smiling. We finished our dinner/dessert and headed home. It was a bit awkward as I couldn't believe what I did. It wasn't until the next day that I let her in on my little 2-month mistake. She told me that she figured it out a little while after I began smiling since I had been asking if anyone emailed, texted or called her today. She thought it was cute that I actually put forth the effort to make the night a nice one for her and it's given us something to laugh about every year on February 18th. Apparently it's the effort that counts, not that you're a dumb@$$ and miss it by 2 whole months.

My wife and I got married on New Year's Eve so (1) we could start the next year married, and (2) it would be an easy anniversary for me to remember. In retrospect, that also wasn't the best day for making dinner reservations later.

My wife and I eloped and got married in Key West.  We walked into the court house on a Monday morning and talked to a couple nice women about the process.  They got things started and asked if we were going to have Capt. so-and-so marry us on the sunset cruise?  We said we wanted to do it right there and now.

There was small talk while they filled out the forms, one lady asked how we met? I said, "We met at the Hog's Breath on Friday night" Both women stopped and looked at us. I couldn't keep a straight face and my wife to be punched me in the arm.  (We had known each other since high school)  We didn't have a ring for me so wife asked for a sharpie, " I want to be sure it's a permanent marker"

A couple months later we had to look at a calender to figure out which day we should celebrate.  I think we both forgot the day the first year and had to go back to the calender to confirm we missed it.

We are coming up on 25 years. I think I'll plan something to surprise her. I just need to check the calender from 1996 to be sure of the date...

Starting with Marjorie's reply, and continuing through to your post, I'm again reminded how similar we all are. My wife's engagement ring is a hematite band from a "3 for $5" basket in a St. Augustine gift shop. Hematite is hard, but rather brittle, so it's been replaced a few times. We just keep some spares on hand (as opposed to on hand).

My ex and I got married in 2000.  We waited an extra year and a half (two year engagement) for the simple reason that we're both crappy at math.  Getting married in 2000 meant we would never have to remember how many years it has been.

6/17 would have been 21 years, but I also consider myself lucky.... that I'm no longer married to that woman. wink
