Although checking the forums periodically is part of my job, I also use them as a thought processor and small reward for completing tasks. I come here at nights and on the weekends because I usually learn something and the company is better than I find on social media--with the exception of those times when people get fractious and things need moderation. Then it's just work that followed me home. Still great work if you can get it.

I wish I could get my boss to understand that. I just occasionally get snippy emails about sticking to business during business hours.
In reply to Pete. (l33t FS) :
Flex water pumps are like Porsche IMS bearings. They don't really fail that often, but when they do it's spectacularly expensive.

I'm certain my company runs keyloggers, tracking trends of activity and login times, etc. I get a big brother "activity summary" email every morning... and they recently made MS Teams the VOIP phone as well - so it's all monitorable.
In my IT job most of the time I am waiting for something to finish so I hop on and off throughout the day. It also helps that I am the only IT person in my office. My immediate supervisor sits someplace in VA, I am in OH, so as long as nothing is blowing up in the office I get left alone.
I have been asked more than once why I am still at my current job. There is no position above my in the whole state and I could be making more money someplace else. My response is that I really enjoy being treated like an adult. No one is looking over my shoulder, as long as my customer are happy and my work is getting done I can come and go as I please, work from home ect.
And today I am NOT checking in from work.
(Looks over shoulder).
Right. I am NOT checking in from work.
