I did FMA for a while but couldn't stick with it. I think Trigun is my favorite all time. Recently finished the entire original dragonball series and started through dbz but remembered why I quit watching it. Steel Angel Kurumi is a really interesting story too with some nice animation as well. I sold off 90% of my collection and kept just the favorites and ones I haven't finished yet. One day I'll resume Cowboy Bebop and make it through the series

Cowboy Bebop is probably the best all around in my opinion.

Don't forget Lupin the III and Ghost in a Shell SAC.

I'm at least familiar enough with a lot of what's been mentioned here to know what y'all are talking about, Adult Swim had Anime on weekends, at least during my college years (cough, cough, ~15 years ago, cough, cough) so I caught a lot of what they aired. I never got into FMA, Lupin, InYuasha, or Trigun, they were background noise mostly, however, like Yupididit, I too loved Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell.

I've got Cowboy Bebop in my favorites on Kodi, and Ghost in the Shell was on Netflix for a while, original movie, SAC, and 2nd Gig, sadly no longer, guess I'll have to find it elsewhere to brush up before the new movie comes out. Though based on the trailers, I don't think much besides setting, names, and a very general concept is carrying over from the manga/films to the live action movie, I hope I'm wrong.

As a lover of all things Mech, I have an appreciation of Gundams and Robotech, and to an extend Big O.

Y'all have me thinking I may have to give FMA another shot.

bigdaddylee82, the Ghost in the Shell live action movie seems to be based off of the original movie, SAC 2nd Gig, and Arise series. Seems it will be an origins type story based on the Kuze arc from SAC 2nd gig but also drawing from the original movie and with its own adapted story combining everything. Nervously anticipating it since the latest trailers came out, it keeps looking better and better...but will it be a really good movie? Looking to find out at the end of the month, beginning of next month.

If you like Mecha check out Appleseed/Appleseed Ex-Machina/Appleseed Alpha, Broken Blade, Bubblegum Crisis, Patlabor (movies - series/OVAs if you want a good laugh... love them both), Knights of Sidona, Macross Plus, Macross Zero, Vexille, and Viper's Creed. There is also the short film "A Farewell to Weapons" which is one of my absolute favorites featuring power suits and AI tanks (it's part of the Short Peace anthology collection). Also Sentou Yousei Yukikaze... for the most awesome aircraft combat in any medium. And for shows with cars and vehicles but not specifically about cars, You're Under Arrest! and Gunsmith Cats, I still have thoughts sometimes of somehow getting and modding a Honda Today because of You're Under Arrest! And last, but not least, there is the insane ride of a movie that my avatar based from, Redline!

Cowboy Bebop is a masterpiece (one of the best English dub tracks EVER made)... one of the few, and the Blu-ray release is a beautiful thing - Tank! in HD audio...

Tank! (but not in HD audio)

Ergo Proxy and Gunslinger Girl (first season only!!!) are right up there with Cowboy Bebop as well for me.

Oh man! I forgot all about Big O (had to watch a few times), Macross, Knights of Sidonia. Don't forget FLCL . Gundam series are usually pretty good.

I recently finished Ajin and Knights of Sidonia. I enjoyed them and their great animation.

Gunslinger Girl didn't get my attention until I was an adult.

There's a Samurai anime that only has 1 season but was really good. Can't remember the name at all. Berserk is also fun to watch. As well as Samurai 7.

As far as movies go. Definitely watch Sword of a Stranger and Moribito.

Are you maybe thinking of Samurai Champloo...from the creator of Cowboy Bebop?

Samurai Champloo OP

Sword of the Stranger is absolutely fantastic!

It wasn't Smurai Champloo. It was much darker.

I liked Cowboy Bebop, but I felt like Samurai Champloo was the better of Watanabe's series.

Looking at my DVDs I forgot to mention Last Exile.

Probably the best musical score of any anime and hands down some of the best visuals.

Black Lagoon is worth watching too. That gets pretty dark though.

Some people consider it a bastardization, but I really dug Robotech:the Macross Saga.

A kids show from the 80s where some of the be main characters die. Unheard of then.

Not too much to figure out with FL CL. The writer even said there isn't supposed to be some deep meaning, it's just supposed to be fun to watch, although he added it could be viewed as a coming of age story. There's bits of symbolism here and there (like how the corporations headquarters is the giant iron, they are smoothing out the chaos of day-to-day life by eliminating free will/independent thought) but largely it's just supposed to be nonsense. Still, really funny to watch drunk, and there a number of great FL CL drinking games.

If you dig steampunk, might I recommend Last Exile. Pretty good story arch. Alternate history/world with floating Dreadnoughts and art deco van ships.

Moribito actually stood out to me from a total package point. It was just a very well done anime. Just happened to come one when I was in a hotel in China for work, some channel that they showed European programming on. It was in english with french subtitles and had two episodes back to back each night. So back in the US I watched it again as censorship does make some of the episodes hard to figure out. Liked it.

Ghost in the Shell anime were great up until the Arise. I didn't like the "younger" bodied Kusanagi just seemed to be too much of a gimmick to tell another story of the team. I think the voice acting wasn't as good either.

Cowboy Bebop, I agree probably the best anime series to date.

  • Death Note was fun.
  • Code Geass (Despite way too much sexy fan service, kind of annoying at times how it slowed the show down rather than progressed any of the plot or action) was very entertaining.
  • Wolfs Rain was kind of a proto Cowboy bebop.
  • Samurai Jack YES I SAID IT!
  • I also really liked Inuyasha just a fun series not trying to get too deep or crazy just fun.

When I watched Initial D, 2nd stage was airing and we had discussion threads on rx7forum.com.

Erased, despite being only 12 episodes, is absolutely amazing. Sadly, because it's a crime drama, once you watch it the first time, it's hard to rewatch because you already know how it turns out.

That's that series that just aired recently, right? I tried reading the manga and couldn't stand it.

I love original dragonball. dbz lost me after frieza saga. Way too drawn out(seriously, 290+ episodes?).

However, my challenge car's power level is over 9000

It deals heavily with slavery and abuse and child soldiers, main characters get murdered or maimed frequently. I see no happy ending to this one. But, damn, if it isn't the best anime I've ever watched.

That reminds me, I might sit down and watch Bokurano this weekend if the weather is as crappy as they say it will be.

Erased is the one where time rewinds around the guy when a crime is about to happen, and he ends up going way back to when he was a kid to prevent a serial killer.

Digging this up again instead of starting a new thread.

Amazon killed off Anime Strike earlier today and rolled the catalog into Prime Video. What that means to those of you who like anime is that a number of last year's biggest series are now not double paywalled.

Case in point: Made in Abyss. I'm four episodes in and it evokes that same interesting/magic feeling as Last Exile did when I first saw it.

Sadly, Daisuke, which was my source of free anime viewing, is no more. Their charter with the Japanese television channels expired and was not renewed, so now the only content is the newest episodes of Dragon Ball Super, and once that show is finished the site will be shut down.
