So received a fun email from the admin that manages our company "rental" cars that we keep on site for business trips about a speeding ticket received in one of the vehicles.  I responded that I had not gotten a ticket, she clarified with a mail from the Toledo Police Dept c/o Traffic Enforcement Office Pheonix AZ.  Argh there is a nice color photo of the rental caravan...

I regularly do the trip to Detroit from Cincy and have never had issues.  Apparently Toledo recently implemented speed cameras as i just received a $170 ticket (no points or communication) just a tax revenue thing for them in the guise of safety.  I as clearly speeding so not arguing validity - just annoyed...

a hungry lawyer could probably argue violation of your 5th Amendment rights, but it would cost more than $170.

Sioux City, IA has been doing it for so long that SD at one time passed legislation forbidding the state government from giving contact information to the city to prevent them from being able to send the bill.

I just got one slowing to 2 mph on a right turn on red. Did I stop? Not totally.

Berwyn, IL.  $100.  I’m going to court.

Ugh. I drive through Toledo a couple of times a year. Thanks for the heads-up, though usually Waze and my Uniden alert me about these things.

In reply to 84FSP :

Do they have video proof of you or just a static photo? Any other vehicles traveling in front of, beside, or behind you that could have been the culprit? When's the last time their fixed radar was tuned for calibration? Is there a statute in the area starting an officer must be physically present?

We got the illegal cameras taken out in our area on all of those questions. There's ways to fight this.

Let me know how this one turns out. I tried to contest by mail, I think in Berwyn. I lost.

Three static shots with distances of the camera to the vehicle and speed.  Surprisingly clear definition...

In D.C. the officer just has to review the evidence not be present on site.  We know this because of a discrimination lawsuit about who got the plum overtime.

There is some twat-face running around the ENTIRE city tagging everything with a political insult.  Would it berkeleying kill him to spray the occasional speed camera lens? indecision  I mean if you hate 'the man' do something useful.

below are the most recent figures for the nations pot o' gold.

'The report says that the District issued 1,079,878 and collected $103,948,666 in fines between October 1, 2016 and September 30, 2017. Those figures set records for D.C. in those categories. AAA says the city is on pace to break that record for fiscal year 2018 which ends on September 30, 2018.' no

Haven't been nabbed in more than two years and probably only twice in 20.

I only live an hour away from Toledo. I did not know they were doing this!

Cedar Rapids, Iowa just started doing this again today on Interstate 380.  $70 ticket, and will take the funds from your state income tax refund if unpayed.

State DOT has had them shut down for the past two years, but it finally worked it's way through the state courts and was found that they don't have the authority to stop it.

Ugh. Just drove through there Tuesday and will be passing through again Weds eve.  I'm assuming this is on/around the 475 loop?

Hope I wasn't speeding the other day... guess I'll find out!

It sound like we're either getting those out of state based speed cameras (berkeley you, every single company trying to enforce local laws in other jurisdictions by the way) or giving the local Narcan distributors, err police, radar guns "for safety".

Anything but better roads and better driver training I guess.

I do like how if you overdose and die behind the wheel in Pennsylvania they'll just bring you back to life and send you on your way though, no ticket, no jail time, no questions asked. That's way safer than speeding or driving drunk.

The funny part is I was going from one customer to another and made a short stop at a Ferrara Pan candy outlet store to buy some jawbreakers.

In the end that 1# bag is going to cost me $102.00.  No more side trips for my sugar addiction.

Mpls had to shut down their red light cameras as they were mailing out tickets to people who weren’t the ones actually driving at the time of said violation. These were city streets not so much freeways.

In many cases the registered owner is not always the actual driver, the vehicle title was not transferred when it should have been, etc. Unless you have an actual leo perform an in person check (ie traffic stop) how can the state constitutionally issue a legit traffic citation?

Bingo bango!

Now that you mention it, that was the straw that broke the camel's back for our cameras. A judge got caught and agrued that point, stating that he and his wife were both registered owners, and there was no photographic proof of the driver. He won, obviously.
