Well my wife's husband is at it again! He was backing his car out of the garage and forgot that he had left a quart of gear oil behind the rear wheel. Yap it exploded! What a jerk!!

Because I am "lucky" enough to have cats I had cat litter. I put that down and got most of it yet the floor has a layer still there.

So oh wise GRM family how do I clean the rest off of the floor?

Thanks!

Mop up as much as you can with disposable towels then hit it with the Dawn liquid dishwashing soap & water. Scrub rinse and repeat as needed.

Thanks Dean! BTW swearing a lot doesn't seem to help at all and it is hard on your throat....

Foaming oven cleaner works well sometimes.

I often found that a second coating of oildri/cat litter will finish the job.

Just leave it there for a day or two.

I had good luck with Dawn yet I am sure I will need to do more tomorrow.

And oddly enough my wife doesn't seem to like the smell. Things you learn after 25 years....

Better on the floor than in the eyes.

brake clean and a rag should get the residue of the gear oil up

The only repair jobs I've ever done that caused me to throw away clothing were clutch replacement and rear-end work. That stuff's horrid.

Also, Purple Stuff degreaser works well on the last of the residue, but don't let it dry before hosing it off, and don't get it on anything you love.

Grind the kitty litter in the concrete.

I have a cleaner at work called Spray Nine that WILL clean anything off of anything. Will remove gear oil from cement and/or concrete. I don't know where we get it from, though. (It smells IDENTICAL to K&N Filter Cleaner)

That stuff is the worst smelling stuff. I always seem to get it in my hair (what is left of it) when ever I am working with it. It is the equivalent of car snot. Just a dab on you and the next thing you know it is everywhere.

The brake cleaner will help to pull it out of the concrete but on those really warn summer days years from now you will still get a wiff of it every now and then.

I've been testing concrete cleaners at work that seem to work pretty well.

This is similar but I haven't tested it yet so I'm not sure if it works.

Sprinkle a decent coat of dry laundry detergent on the stain, then grind as with kitty litter, scoop and wash. Hot water is better.

believe it or not, I use floor dry like you did to get up all I can with the broom. Then I put some more on and do The Twist and grind the floor dry into the spill. Maybe 30 seconds of this and you'll be surprised what it gets up. That part of the floor will look cleaner than the surrounding floor.

Use the dish washing liquid, soap with a nylon brush to remove the oil stains. You can also use kerosene for the concrete floors. For more information visit website.

Dad used to call it the Kitty Litter Shuffle. Put on a good song and dance in the stuff. For a while.

The way to fix that one spot being cleaner is to spill the gear oil evenly over the whole floor.
