We have been watching off and on since Tom Baker ( Sara Jane Smith & K9 were sidkicks) . We liked Peter Davidson too. Three newest Dr's are good.

my fac doc was the one that ended the series in 1989 and his sidekick that mever screamed....i dont know the eps but those where very cool.
Of course the most famous non-screaming companion still has to be Leela. What is not to like about a hot looking savage woman in a leather leotard?
I watched it when it was still B&W, and yeah, the budget for the shows must have been pocket change. Later "efforts" at the Dr. Who series are like those movies that get re-made more than once...sometimes you like the cast, but when you don't, sometimes the writing makes up for it.
Dr. Who was one of the 1st series I ever saw where the change in the actor who played the good doctor was made quite often, and explained by his being re-incarnated. Used to be, if an actor took over a pre-existing role, they got someone who VERY closely resembled the "original" and pretended nothing happened.
true.. quite forsightful of the BBC.. granted, afer they produced the show, the BBC did not quite know what to do with it... was it entertainment, was it educational, was it somewhere in between?
Thred resurection. Just watched 'blink' again last night. Still sent shivers down my spine and I knew what was coming.
Start with the reboot in 2005 like others said. I'd love to be able to watch some of the prior seasons, hoping that one day they'll all be available instead of just select ones.
If you can't dedicate that much time, watch the episodes with the Weeping Angels. Scary creatures they are! Although the Daleks are supposed to be scarier the whole trash can/lite brite/plunger thing doesn't frighten me.

"The angels have the phonebox"!
The last time I watched Dr Who, Tom Baker was still playing the Dr.
My daughter has expressed an interest in the show so I guess we will have to get into it.
Watched a lot of Tom Baker and Peter Davidson as the Doctor growing up. Not watched any of the newer stuff though.
