My wife writes social media content for a marketing firm.

They've got a new client, and she is writing stuff for their Twitter/ FaceBook feed. The client is a commercial truck leasing company (big rigs). They are based in a small Southern town, but lease interstate.

The marketing company gave her a list of topics, but I found them to be kind of uninspiring. (Might have something to do with a trucking company that thinks it needs a Twitter presence, and hires a bunch of women with no truck knowledge to write them something!)

So I thought I'd ask the hive...

Their goals are to attract business (hours of operation, etc), and to attract good mechanics.

I'm not completely sure that diesel mechanics or people who are looking to lease a truck are on Twitter, but...

They want 20 "lightweight manly" topics (like sports, NASCAR, fishing, gadgets, hunting), and 20 "meaty" trucking topics (CDL related, equipment, logistics, truck safety, ASE certified techs, etc).

So, whatcha think? What topics would grab the attention of that audience?

Keep in mind, a lot of these posts need to be 160 characters or less, so she's not gonna dig too deep!

I think she needs a hook (gimmick, theme, focus). Maybe something like truck trivia, etc.

Ready, set, go!

Heavy duty truck related:

-ways to improve fuel economy. -ways to decrease maintenance time or cost. -DOT guidelines and ways to keep moving. -real world safety improvements (replacing old headlights on owner-operator rigs with drop-in projectors, etc)

Maybe like a quiz...

"Truck Tech Quiz"... If you know the answer to 15 or more, you should apply as a diesel tech.

In all reality, it's very hard to force this stuff. Twitter is very organic and has a sensitive BS meter.

There's an account I follow: @brandssayingbae that points out all of the pandering big companies are doing toward millenials, in an insincere effort to try to be hip. It's pretty funny.

Maybe go on a trucking message board (assuming they exist?) or start following trucking-related stuff on facebook and see what she can snag or catch onto.

Here's an observation I have...

Technology is now becoming a big part of a diesel mechanic's life.

But, the people who are most comfortable with big heavy greasy mechanical things, are not necessarily the same people who like to play with computers.

Modern shops need a special breed of diesel tech.

I'm just not sure what grabs the attention of those guys.

Perhaps Woody is right... Kate Upton.

Maybe they need the GGA thread, with girls draped over trucks.

What grabs a mechanics attention? Money, and tools to make his life easier.

It would take a bit of research, but perhaps debunking fuel mileage myths could be a good shot. Get the truckers laughing at the stupid stuff some other guys believe will help, and show the mechanics you have a serious company focused on the technical aspects of the business.

I didn't say it. That was the marketing company's input.

I am, however, pretty sure they are right. In spite of the feelings about NASCAR on this site, I am pretty sure the target market (southern truckers) likes NASCAR.

Give me some specifics.

Which myths? Which technical aspects?

No diss intended. I'm saying, the more "inside" she is, the better. She needs to learn legit jargon and current issues--even memes related to it.

Great that she's getting paid either way--I just think that if she can come across as one of them as opposed to someone trying to market to them, she might grab more attention. I'm 42 and my music digest twitter gets attention from people of all ages (mostly younger than me) because I'm tweeting as a musician.
