Hagerty Insurance set up a driving experience last Friday for young drivers to learn how to drive manual transmission.
The kicker: they were all classic cars (except for a new Mustang GT and Camaro SS).
35 Drivers from ages 16 to 20 broken up into two groups: One learning manual, the other learning basic vehicle maintenance.
Glynette and Barry Wolk, of Farmington Hills, provided their 1955 Porsche 356 Cabriolet.
"I remember being this age, and I remember being so excited about old cars," said Glynette Wolk, whose love of cars began as a teenager.
"I'm just excited to give other people this chance."
Although the thought of teens driving the Porsche gave her some pause, she found them very respectful.

Learning basic maitenance on a Turbo Buick... man I am jealous.
That is very cool. Maybe more events like that and the stickshift may stick around.
Hagerty rocks, nice to see someone not giving up on manual transmissions.

Awesome. I'd love to send my 16 year-old brother through something like this.

I think dude-man is way more into the girl in front of him than the turbo buick. But why wouldn't he be?

One of the Hagerty guys was there with his Model A. ...which he's 2/3 through a year-long drive.

...and BTW--if I were a hormone-ravaged teen in that group, I wouldn't be able to think about cars if surrounded by all of that talent. Cripes...

if they're ever gonna own one, they better know how to work on one.. they aren't exactly a "get in and drive" kind of car, even in totally stock form..
i wonder what year that one is.. it's got the 84-85 wheels, but an 86-87 intercooled engine.. it's not a GN, unless someone put a chrome bumper on one for some reason..
i'm trying to think of a good caption for that pic:
"this is an adjustable wastegate actualtor.. don't get too greedy, or you will be putting a head gasket in it. over here is the LS1 MAF sensor and the translator box that allows it to work with the with TurboTweak chip.."
