I thought we got past all this.
Too many years ago, I lived about 30 miles south of Philly - yeah, it was Jersey.
Having moved there from Georgia, one of the first things I realized was that racism was far more prevalent and viscious in and around the "City of Brotherly Love".
Sad that it hasn't changed a bit. Makes me glad I moved back south!
the story says they were asked not to return, but then doesn't explain a whole lot about why. could be just that the people that were there on a summer monday afternoon were pissed because their peace and quiet was shattered by 65 screaming k-7 kids, regardless of who or what color they were.
i've been irritated by the actions of even fewer similar-aged white kids, and if i was paying a membership, 65 screaming kids on a quiet afternoon would probably get some griping from me, possibly not a formal complaint, but these people are probably used to bitching a lot
I'm not nearly convinced that this has anything to do with race. The media is not reporting or is glossing over that other contracts with other day camps were also refunded DUE TO OVERCROWDING AT THE FACILITY. I'm sorry, but the story doesn't hold water (some pun intended).
At the very least, you gotta admit that "change the complexion" phrase in the official response was poorly thought out.
I am originally from southern NJ, currently live just outside of Philly in PA, and have lived in several other parts of the country in-between. I can honestly say that Philly is the most racist place that I have ever lived (I am sure that there are worse places, but I haven't lived in them). And as mad_machine mentioned, it flows freely in both directions. There is probably a lot of that going on in this pool story I would imagine.

I lived in philly for a long time and it is a racist place.
I then moved to Charleston SC. A guy down the street from my friend in Ladson SC owned , "Karls Kwik Kerb"..... He did do curbs, but read between the lines.
edit: Now.. I don't want to say that charleston was more racist than philly. I don't think it really was... .But.. It was more in the open.
This story made the New Zealand Herald down under: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=10583615

I live in Philly and grew up in South Jersey. The media is jumping all over this, but I'm pretty sure it was because the camp owed the pool something like $1800.
Just some clarification of terms here: A racist yankee does not a "Good old boy" make.
Thanks,
The management.
Huntington Valley is minutes from the house where I grew up. It's actually where the DMV where I took my license test is located.
And now you understand one of the many reasons I moved out of that godforsaken, overpriced, holier-than-thou, SUV-driving, Starbucks-sipping, Panera-Bread-eating, yuppie E36 M3hole part of the world called the Philadelphia suburbs. May it have an atomic bomb dropped on it, and then have it's ashes sent on a rocket into the core of the sun. That is all.

If the camp owed the pool owners about $1800, why did the camp receive a $1950 refund check?
Just askin!

Bad sources?
+1 to what Twin_Cam said though

Humble pie is a better menu choice than having the Feds, ACLU, or Rev Al-Jesse poking your nether regions for cash.

Much like how sarcasm can be lost on the internet, I'm sure it was lost when the founding fathers (or whomever said it first) called it the City of Brotherly Love.
I was born in Philly and have been migrating further south and west across the state ever since.
