What tight gun laws? Also, Illinois is surrounded by America, so it's not like there isn't a pile of guns on the doorstep.

"The shootings over the Fourth of July holiday weekend included eight incidents that involved police, according to McCarthy. In five of those instances, officers shot at suspects. Two people — both 16 — were killed in those shootouts."

It appears that Chicago could immediately reduce overall gun incidents by 10% and fatal gun incidents by an approximate 36% by simply disarming the police.

Cook county Illinois has some of the strictest firearms laws in the united states, and yet some of the worst gun violence.

No surprise. I don't turn on the local news anymore because all they talk about for the first 10 minutes is all the shootings.

Honestly, I work in the Ghetto and I hate the mentality. Somebody gets shot up and nobody tells anything to to police. Not because no one saw anything, because berkeley the police. Then, everybody cries the police don't do enough or anything at all.

Until these neighborhoods get their E36 M3 together and band together to stop the violence, it's not going to stop.

I don't agree with the gun laws. I don't think it's fair to the folks who live in the E36 M3ty areas not able to defend themselves.

Contrary to popular belief, aside from the UK, most countries in Europe do not have very strict gun laws. The report notes that "Chicago's total of 53 shooting incidents for the holiday weekend easily eclipsed Detroit and New York combined" Detroit has no gun laws, New York is even worse than Chicago. Guns have nothing to do with the problem, illegal drugs and gangs(who typically exist to sell illegal drugs) do.

If you want to reduce violent crime in this country, you need to stop the reason for the fighting, not the tools(which has proven to be an exercise in futility), you need to legalize drugs(whose control has also proven futile).

Do you know the real reason? People like "pow pow" explosions for independence day. Northern Illinois does not allow individual fireworks of any kind (yet allows BURNING METAL called sparklers.) We need the pow pow. So what do you do? Throw ya gunz in tha air!

Broken system. Gun laws will not prevent anything. The problem is the people. I'd be willing to bet that most of the shooters have prior records of violent crime, yet were out on the street.

My idea to fix this is stiffer penalties for violent crimes, along with a broader more frequent use of the death penalty, and if a violent offender is offered a plea deal and commits another violent crime then charge the DA/SA as an accessory.

Honestly, i worked around Chicago several times for long stretches of time and really loved that city and except for one area that wasn't even in Chicago ( it was Gary Indiana where our shop was) the people were nothing but nice and welcoming. A world different than long island where my wife is from filled with mostly shiny happy people

Maybe if we found someone from Chicago to elect as President we could solve the problem?

The report I heard said that the actual murder rate this year is the lowest since 1965.

But sure, cherry pick one weekend to prove a broad point.
