At 7:30 AM, I'm out of here.
Y'all might get an update in a few days, but you might not too. I almost hope there isn't any cell or internet service when we get there.

The itinerary looks something like this.
6 hours on the road tomorrow will put us in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. We will spend the night at the Cosby Campground. Sunday we will be traveling to the Center Hill lake in TN. We are staying in a cabin at the Edgar Evins State Park through Thursday. Then we have to go to Nashville for my sister in law's wedding. There the wife will do girly stuff and I will do things like visit the Lane Motor Museum and possibly take a canoe trip down the Harpeth River. Then we will take a couple of days to make our way back to Charleston.

A nice long trip in the Sammy is planed for this fall. I'm planing to hit the Trans American Trail for as far as I can make it in a couple of weeks.
You're the only man in history to bring four boats for the possibility of a canoe trip.
I'd hate to see how many shoes your wife is bringing.

We missed the Lane museum last time in Nashville. Real comedy of errors involving something like three bus mishaps and a bit of a walk in what felt like a sketchy area at the time. On the upside, we met some hilarious locals and had a great conversation waiting for the last bus back to our hotel.
There was a farmers market just north of the capital building, and west of the park, that has a Jamaican restaurant in it that was wonderful.
We flew out of Nashville on the first few hours of the storm that turned into their big flood. I guess we were lucky with our timing.

Replace the boats with bikes?
Have fun Toyman!
Short update. Good week so far. No wifi and crap for cell coverage, so no pictures. I'll post some up later.
No deaths yet.
The beast has been doing a great job of hauling crew and crap, over the mountains and through the woods. She has sucked down about 70 gallons of gas though.
I still love this truck.
Why are you posting here?
Posting on GRM while on a vacation in the Smokeys is like looking at pictures of other girls while making love to your wife.

I stop in here while the rest of the family sleeps in. Getting up early is a hard habit to break. Then again, sitting on a porch, listening to the birds, with a cup of coffee, while reading GRM, isn't exactly misery. This place is like the morning paper to me. Long page loads and typing on a phone does suck, so I'm just hitting the highlights.

Wait a minute! You mean that's wrong??
Still out here. Finally got to a wifi spot to upload a couple of pictures. The only casualty so far is a blown tire on the boat trailer and that happened 40 miles out of Charleston.
So far, 1000+ miles, 100+ gallons of gas, half a gallon of coolant, a couple of sunburns, a wedding, two birthdays, quite a lot of money, and I'm ready to sell all the houses, tools and children, and just stay out here for a few years.
Just to wet your appetite, check the road sign.
Aahhhh Yeah! Tail of the Dragon in a F350 crew cab dually, towing a boat. 11 miles, 300+ turns and I only had to pull off 3 times for faster traffic. A 460 does a pretty good job of hauling 10K pounds up a hill.
We're in Maggie Valley for the night and still have 245 miles to go to get home. Hopefully the rig will stay together. One of the trailer hubs is running pretty warm so I might end up changing a hub on the side of the road. We'll see how she does in the morning.
I'll do a trip report in a few days. I've got a ton of pictures to go through.
One more of the birthday boys. Two of the best kids in the world. This was shot at the wedding we went to Friday.
You'll need to log in to post.
