the living room needed painting, found a can of mismixed yellow, looks more like mellow yellow to me, bit of lime in there.. g/f loves it.. cost? $2.97

Had no shelves, needed some, decided to build an entertainment center instead of buying something i didn't want for $400.00. I'm no carpenter, but it came out okay. It mounts to the wall, surrounds the TV like like a picture frame, has book shelves up the sides and two larger shelves to hold the vcr, dvd, ect..painted in black enamel with a foam brush cost? $67.86

TV above surrounds, 42" plasma, has two "lines" that you can barely see, and only once in awhile. the store was going to toss it, i convinced them to sell it to me for "parts" .. cost? $46.00

miscellaneous paint, brushes, screws.. about $20.00

total cost , about $140.00 and 8 hours of work...

still need to cut wire access, ad last shelf under tv, and some touch up. but im good with it considering I can barley hammer a nail straight, which is why i used screws.. :)

Wait, they were going to toss the tv and you convinced them to charge you for it?

My buddy did that with his old 1987 Volvo's seats. They're nice maroon leather chairs now. Quite comfortable.

I have almost that exact same tile in my basement.

Nice set up.

Very nice set up.

My lovely little house has no room (way too many books) for my current bookshelves....I might have to look into making some built-ins.

I am expecting orders back to Oklahoma this fall, and given the current economy, there is no way we can sell this house. We can afford it fine, so I am planning on getting a Condo in Norman so I can rent it out when I am finished (college town) and leaving the missus behind.

This thread has given me great inspration. I already look at the furniture setup on Top Gear taking notes and wondering how I can duplicate it.

That is a really nice setup. Good job.

Big ol' Cadillac rear seat for a couch. BMW E30 sport seats for captain-chair computer chair type things. Volvo seats for a recliner type thing.

Yes, I have put a lot of thought into this.

the third row from the astro/safaris would work pretty well as a loveseat type thing too

Ford E150 seats rock, the back seats are a futon as well as a couch, and 4 captains chairs with arm rests, for computer, dining etc.

Actually in my garage I have a love seat I made from a Saab 900 rear seat that was just too nice to trash.

Plus, its leather. If I was single, that would impress the ladies, but since I am married, its existance mearly annoys the SO, hence it lives in the garage. My end table made from an old cragar mag with a good tire lives in the basement.

I'd actually probably try for the whole matching set, so get a nice back seat and macthing fronts from an E30, or some other euro ride.

Wow, thanks for the props all.. I have a small house I bought to flip just before the real estate boom, figured Id live in it for a year then make a huge chunk of change. then I lost my job, and now when im finally almost recovered from ten months unemployment three + years ago, the house value went through the basement (if i had one) but luckily, is still worth about what i paid for it. Since im not going anywhere for awhile, I figured it was time to start making it more comfortable. Also with four dogs, things on the floor aren't generally a good idea. So I came up with this entertainment center design to make the best use of space, and be able to hold allot of junk. I added a couple of shelves, touched it up, and still have some tweaking to do, there's one shelf that's a bit off and its driving me up the wall... and I still have some "wire management" to do... I added a cheap surround sound set up as well, its been in a box for several years and makes the set up all the better, though I do miss my bose system that I sold when I was out of work.

Tim's article on recovering a seat with his uncle actually inspired me on this project, made me remember projects with my Dad, and also made me remember that I can do things like this if I think it out right and take my time... GRM all the way..
