Picked up an interesting new-to-me lens this week, a Pentax SMC-K 85mm f2.2 soft. "soft" of course means its a soft focus lens, and the soft focus feature is controlled by the aperture. The aperture range is only f2.2 to f5.6, with four click stops and fully variable between stops. At wide open (2.2) it's at its softest and at f5.6 it's actually fairly sharp. Manual focus only of course, and no stop down coupler so you get to see the actual depth of field and softness through the viewfinder.

Here's a test shot, wide open (softest). softyellowflower

The Iowa River is above flood stage, which is resulting in mild entertainment around UIowa.

Snapped this at 1/15 shutter. It's not the steadiest since everything is moving like crazy but I'm happy with the result.

I was shooting announcements for Church... so much awesome gear in this pic 5dmk3 with a 50mm 1.4, 60d with 24-70 2.8L being the highlights... there is also the standard 70-200 2.8 isII in the bag (the two people in the shot are pro wedding 'tographers)... working on a DIY/ghetto teleprompter here soon... just love how versatile modern DSLRs are

There's something special about transparencies. My father shot slides for years - there have to be hundreds, if not thousands, of them. I need to scan them at some point.

I haven't gotten into shooting it myself due primarily to problems of getting it developed locally. Plus my tendency not to meter. And the cost. And the fact that it seems to be drying up at the supply end. But they do look pretty. Have you used the Fuji slide films as well?
