I got this one some years back when the shelty was playing with the puppy... the timing was just perfect... funny part was that the shelty was the most laid back dog ever... he never wanted to do anything although when the puppy came home he played around with her which was always a little strange to see.

Even though I grew up on the coast in California and never in my life lived more than 2 1/2 hours from an ocean I had never been ocean fishing until this trip a couple weeks ago, bonus points for anyone that recognizes the area 
Winter '05, Ketchikan, AK. This is the wooden pipeline that delivered water from Lake Connell to the old lumber mill. Taken standing on top of the pipe, just below the dam.

One of my research conferences was in Barga over several days. Naturally, my lab took an extra 4 days, most of it in Lucca but our last night was in Pisa. The sky was friggin' perfect! The hotel was infested with mosquitoes though...

First picture was of a copper sulfide, in a flotation plant (one of the two ways of extracting copper).
The blue stuff is from a leaching operation and is mostly sulfuric acid and copper oxides (the other way of extracting copper).
This one is from our operations in the middle of NOWHERE in Indonesia haha.

The 35mm limited and D FA 100mm WR that skierd mention are both well-regarded. Though the 35 runs about $400 used, and the 100mm around $500 used. If she can go without auto-focus, there's a bunch of older lenses out there like skierd said. I personally think it's worth getting auto-aperture (the 'A' setting on the lenses aperture ring) which makes it much easier to use a flash.
One other thing to note, the zoom lenses that say 'macro' are only kind of macro, they don't have the magnification of a true/dedicated macro lens.

I might have to pick one up, add an adapter and I can use my old manual focus 50mm f/1.4 pentax lens I still have kicking around...

Just an interesting quick pic I snapped this weekend. I was trying to get a shot of the interior and did not notice the reflection. Came out kind of interesting. (taken from a simple waterproof camera)

Waukeegan Airshow. They re-enacted a Vietnam pilot extraction. I caught the pyro going of as the second Sandy made his run. I used a Nikon D70 with a 300mm lens. Couldn't tell you the settings. I'm a hack and the shot was dumb luck.
