At Suzuka? I don't think I ever had contact with anyone in the hh race, just a single short cut penalty. I think it was only 3 or 4 seconds instead of 9 seconds, now I know why.

Maybe weak just changes the length of the penalty and not the likelyhood of getting on called. Not sure.

I think I have a ROC car. I have an alternate that is pretty interesting, but it is really off the pace. I also think I have my cars for next season, at least fall backs.

I did some controller racing the other night (mainly to try some drifting, which should be a bit easier with the controller). I also did some racing. I have to give mad props (I'm so ghetto) to those that are using the controllers, ESPECIALLY driving with damage. I can't see how anyone could drive any distance with damage with a controller. With a wheel, you just hold it at an angle, but with the controller, it wants to return to center, which of course is a slight turn! My only suggestion to the controller people who get front damage, do the same damage on the other side, it should make it a bit easier to control (?!)

We might want to do a controller only race at some point, just to give the wheel people a bit of perspective if nothing else.

Driving with damage is not any fun. I think I have just dropped out of 4 or 5 races because of damage between this season and last season. I drove the entire SBC race at Indy last series with damage...zig zagging around trying to keep the car straight. It really wore me out and was more work than fun. After that I figured if I'm not having fun I'm not doing it right, so I just tend to drop out if I get to the point where it is not fun. I guess I could get a wheel set up and stop whining, but I just don't want to deal with one right now. It would lead to a new TV in a different room I bet so it is not in my family room. It seems I have to buy a new TV to replace my real TV now, so buying two TV's is not in the cards right now so no wheel for me anytime soon.

Front damage is fairly easy to correct for, turn the opposite direction for light damage, smack the other side to try to balance it out for heavy.

Does that really work? I never even thought of trying that. Do you use a controller or a wheel?

Controller. And yeah, it works well enough that you don't have to pit every couple of laps.

I was doing the heavy damage one at Cote 'd Azur to stay out of the pits constantly, as long as you don't damage the engine it can either feel like light damage or as near to no damage that the car drives alright.

I hooked the PS3 up to an old TV. It is 12 years old or so, a rear projection, non-widescreen, non-HD POS that we haven't turned on since January. Yuck, I cannot quite make out my lap times in the upper right of the screen and details like tire wear are a guess at best. I'm planning on giving it a shot Wednesday, but who knows how it will work out.

In reply to T.J.: It will work fine. If I didn't have so many medical bills I'd get a HD TV to race with. What a difference that would make. Anyway, I've been using a dinosaur and even though I can't read anything without zooming, I get by. Glad you're going to be with us Wed.

FYI.... PS3 Update 3.70 is out... you'll need to update before the race.

Also, not sure how much I'll be able to race. I have a presentation to do for a client in Hong Kong this evening (9:30 CT), depending on how long it takes me to get setup will determine if/how long I can race.

I was going to note the System Update also. Took a few minutes to download (fast connection) but it must have been almost 10 to install and restart, so get it early!

I've been so focused on getting my cars right that I haven't considered ROC. I'm assuming that it's like the last series, where there really aren't enough regular drivers, so everyone will get a nod?

I'm leaning towards my fully tuned Miura. If 573pp isn't competitive, I'll throw a bunch of bolt ons onto one of my Vipers. Is the ROC on race tires or sports?

The rules don't say, so I assume race. I sure do hope so. You don't need E36 M3ty tires to get your ass kicked on that track.

Yeah, screw the Viper.

To get to 600, you have to pull all the weight and hit over 700hp.

No thanks.

That was fun tonight. Since my TV is so out of whack (it's 11 years old and rear projection set that needs aligned) I couldn't make out lap times and only could get a vague idea of tire wear. It was hard to tell who was who because the little names over the cars where unreadable except when the other car was within a couple car lengths. I have no idea who was on my tail for most of the hh race, most of the time I thought they were on the same lap as me and I was only 1 mistake away from throwing away 2nd, but then after my tires totally gave up and Grae passed me, I was confused because he was a lap down. I guess I passed him in the pits, but I didn't know because that is too far away to read the name as you go by.

I should've pitted, but I thought I had about half of my fronts left halfway through the race. Did not factor in the increased wear rate as they wear down and get slicker. I held off AC for longer than I figured, but after he went by my tires were so toasted I was lucky to make it around the last 3 laps and even finish. I guess I failed to learn the lesson from last week concerning pit stops, but that was because I pitted in the vette race and paid the price for it. Oh well.

In reply to T.J.:

I thought you might have a win tonight T.J. You really do a good job considering you use the buttons on a controller. Your car is faster than the Volvo @ the end of the straight but when I built an Integra I was consistently faster in the Volvo. Same with the Fords, I was faster in the Volvo and much easier on the tires. Yet Air and Brad make them work. Different strokes I suppose.

If you guys recall, I said my HH was "unstable" with my setup @ this track. It was up to 2 sec. faster that way and would turn in much quicker and hold a tighter line without pushing out so badly. What I didn't get a chance to do is draft with it. I was so intent on being on BW's bumper going into the front straight that I didn't go into the fast rt. hand turn correctly and dropped the RF wheel onto the grass causing a quick rt. then left into the outside wall hard, bouncing off and then across the track into the inside wall as T.J. said @ the end of the race. I started back up the track to see if it was drivable. It wasn't So I did a 180 and went back to the pit entrance. Of course it's all the way back in BFE. Anyway, I made it out of the pits on my lap two as Air and P2 (not sure who it was @ that point) flashed by on their L3. Don't you just hate it when you piss the race away on L1? Going into the same turn on my L2 I was drafting off of T.J. By then it didn't matter so I wanted to see if I could do it. I couldn't. I lost it again and slapped the wall with my LR. However, with no damage I set the front of the car up too low and apparently in the draft the car became uncontrollable. Turbulence you know. The rest of my HH race was rather uneventful. Grizz found a wall giving me 4th. and the internet demons apparently booted Ben giving me 3rd. Man I feel for you Ben after making it that far with a good finish. Same thing happend to me in the first Z06 race.

Speaking of Z06, I qual. 3rd. and got off to my usual terrible start so I could make it to the back of the pack ASAP. The race from my perspective was rather mundane. I just got in a rhythm and got to race with Brad for several laps. When I realized that I couldn't maintain that pace without a pitstop, I started short shifting and let him go. Brad, I "rode" with you in the replay and I sure do wish I could run those lines that smoothly with a controller, but I can't. Very impressive, even when your tires were worn down on the last couple of laps. I ended up in 3rd. in that race too due to just racing the track until the end. In watching the replay this was actually a quite competitive race. The car icons stayed close together for half the race. Apex. I watched your car in the replay too and saw that you pitted on L12. You were running me down @ the time and I was surprised that you pitted. Edit: I forgot to mention that watching your car from outside in the replay, I could see that you were having to steer full lock to get it to turn causing you to burn the front tires down prematurely. No doubt, that's why you pitted. I wanted to see if you crashed or what. I was running super slow @ the end but made it to the end with no stop. IMO, this track was hard to find the fast way around and not one of my favorites.

So on to Daytona.

Thanks Grae. I was a little bit faster in the Volvo than the DC5 at every track I tested the two cars at, but knew there were already at least two Volvo entries, so wanted to pick something different. The two cars have wildly different shift points that is for sure. Gotta rev the snot out of the DC5 to make it work where the Volvo has a much lower and wider powerband.

I caught up to Apex a couple times in the Z06 race then I made mistakes both times. The beginning of the race was fun dicing with AC though until I put a rear tire in the dirt and spun. When I came back on track Brad and Grae were almost on me and I waited for them to pass so I didn't pull right out in front of them and cause a big pileup or have them heading out into the sand trying to avoid me. I think I did about 10 practice laps plus whatever qualli laps I did in the vette before the race. That is not enough for me.

The little Clio was actually quite fast once i figured out the track... i cracked off a few 1:44s in the second half of the race. Then i got dropped on lap 17 or some E36 M3.

GAH!!!!

I was more mad about the Vette race... i'm pretty fast around that track in the Vette, though i tend to drift a lot, so i'm sure i would have needed one stop for tires.

Thanks. It is considerably easier to drive when you don't have a baby beating on your arm the entire race.

I didn't get any practice going into the event, and aside from adding a bit of extra room in top gear, my setup was exactly the same as last week. I qualified dead last, and was pretty happy to be in 3rd after a couple corners. I spent most of the race learning the track. I really haven't spent any time at Indy since the GT5 Time Trial that came out just before the full game was release. I tried to keep everything smooth, but AC was consistently 1/10 to 3/10s a second quicker each lap. By the middle of the race the gap had grown to 7+ seconds, and then AC made some kind of mistake because it suddenly dropped to about 4.5 seconds. I tried to get close enough to make some attempt at a run for first, but never managed to get any closer.

I am sure that I heard TJ cussing when Grea and I went by in the Z06 race, despite having disabled voice chat. You looked fast here TJ in both races. In HH your tires were toast. You may not have been able to see it very well, but there was literally nothing left in the tire wear indicator.

Grae you should have kept pushing me in the Z06 race. When you passed me the front straight you were carrying a lot of speed. If you watch the replay, when I attempted to pass you back on the next lap, I ran out of gear and could only get along side you. I think if you would have pushed me for another lap or 2 you would have been able to pull enough of a gap that I wouldn't have been able to use the draft to catch you.

I hate the Vette. Nothing I have done to it has worked.

I can change the suspension, and it'll be nice and controllable during practices, but once the race starts it acts exactly the same as it did before I messed with stuff.

The Citroen..... I dunno what is going on with that car. I've had it pretty much dialed in suspension wise since the Le Sarthe race, but it doesn't look like there is much I can do to keep it from eating tires.

Or the random brake failures. Which is something I was going to ask about. Any of you have your brakes stop working at random times during the race? I'd hit the brakes the same spots I did all the other laps, only the car wouldn't slow down at all, and I'd smack into the wall or go into the sand. Near the end of the race I was intentionally locking up just to make sure I didn't smash into the wall again at the end of the front straight.
